The Big 12 has struck its long-discussed private capital deal — the first such publicized conference-wide agreement in major college sports.

The league’s presidents and chancellors ratified the five-year agreement with capital partner RedBird last week, as well as Weatherford Capital, finalizing a three-prong package: to deliver an infusion of capital — at least $12.5 million — to the league office to drive commercial development and business growth; offer schools an opt-in capital credit line of $30 million each; and create a strategic business partnership that could pay off when the conference next goes to market for its media rights contract.

The Big 12 is describing the deal as the “RedBird Business Development Partnership.” As part of their Collegiate Athletic Solutions partnership, the firms are co-investing the infusion into the conference with an expected return. However, the capital partners will hold no ownership in the league and the deal will not change the operation or governance of the conference, commissioner Brett Yormark told Yahoo Sports.

So expect the Big 12 and Paramount to strike a deal ... which will likely mean more streaming of games and having to pay for their platform.

Also borrowing money to compete ... doesn't sound like a great formula. If I am understanding what that "opportunity" is.

Was I supposed to type something here?

It's OPM. When the bill comes due, none of these guys will be around...

I don’t mind that for TCU v. Abilene Christian type games. You already need ESPN+ for that. But if this means ALL games will be streaming…yikes.

Sounds like something Tom Selleck is pushing on MeTV. I would steer clear. This sounds like trouble that will blow up years down the road.

Schools do not have to opt in for the line of credit, and have about a year to do so. Dellenger's article states that they only expect 2 to 6 schools to do so. I'd highly doubt TCU would be one. My guess all of them will be public schools with Arizona, Houston, Kansas and maybe Arizona State at the top of the list.

And yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if CBS/Paramount get a piece of the Big12 inventory with the next contract. TNT already has some.

No lines at the bathrooms unlimited, cheaper concessions, better view and replays on questionable plays......
All true. It blows my mind how many people are willing to spend what they do to attend games. All leagues, all sports. I'm a huge sports fan and going to games is fun (and honestly a beating in a lot of ways) but when you consider what else you could buy with the $ you have to spend on sports tickets, no thanks.

Cowboy tickets are the most ridiculous. If you want even halfway decent tickets and a beer or three, a group of four is going to spend all-in close to $3,000 for one game. Insane is a very overused word, but that is insane.

Rather go to an all-inclusive for a week and watch the cowboys from a pool for those prices lol.

Think of the party you could throw at your house, or in your garage, if you had $3k to work with. Seriously, wouldn't that be a hell of a lot more fun?

But people seem to think they have to keep giving Jerry all their money.
