Yes we beat up on ourselves throughout the year, and so we thought we had a deep conference.... however after watching Oregon take K State to the woodshed and A&M whoop up on OU, this conference has a ways to go to be elite.

Reality sucks.

Big 12 blows big time. Our two "best" teams got absolutely humiliated and TCU lost to a team from a conference that is hardly relevant.

Its all cyclical. Stop the knee-jerk, reactionary panic. A&M will come crashing back to earth next season and we will ascend to the top of the Big12 which will once again be ranked the toughest conference .

If you look at the rankings in the top 25 and their bowl performances many ranked teams have been turned into jokes in the bowl games. The correlation of ranking / prestige is over rates. About half of the top 25 have been so blown out they doing even look like they deserves to be ranked. K State was ranked #1 for about 15 minutes.

Our problems are a lot deeper than just Skye flubbing a punt return I am afraid. Yeh maybe we would have hung on to win the game, maybe not?We sure weren't in a position offensively to be building on our lead.We were in a severe duck & cover mode the entire 2nd half
.That is what must be corrected the most next season. We cannot leave it up to our Defense to hold Big 12,or non Conference opponents to 2 TD's or less each game and expect to win very often. Our Offensive line,QB play(wheover is the guy),and play calling all have to step it up next season. CGP is going to have to quit putting the game in the hands of the defense in the 2nd quarter like he had to do this season,or things are really going to turn ugly fast around here!

I agree with TCUSA that it's all cyclical, but good grief. To say this was a bowl season (or entire season) to forget is an understatement.

I disagree about A&M is crashing "back down to earth." I'm not saying they'll win the SEC or National Championship next year or anything, but good grief man! What holes did you see in their game today? It makes me want to puke but yet are solid everywhere and Manzeil is dang near unbeatable. It seems you'd have to field an offense that can trade blows with him and cross your fingers that you'll be able to stop him enough to win. A&M is crazy lucky to have that guy. Imagine RG3 at Texas. Same deal.

Two teams with RS Freshmen QB's dominated our two best teams. If we had had any offense, we would have been right there with those teams. The conference can be ours for the taking next year if we can work that out. We know what the problems are, hopefully CP is ready to go, the OL improves, and the offensive staff gets some new blood.

in this era of college football I'm not sure if our system is going to work, you have to be agressive on offense and that is just not in this programs DNA, would I give up CGP? heck no, but this staff/team have a big task in front of them to climb back to BCS caliber and it starts with offensive philosophy

We need to start questioning how we ended up in a situation where we can't field an offensive line. Comparing what we are putting on the field against what aTm put on the field tonight it's not even same league. Like comparing Allen high school to some junior high team.

Our offense looked pretty aggressive last year at Boise and pleanty of other times. Our offense just lost its mojo when Fuente left and we went back to something worse than Schutz who repeatedly lost games because our offense was stagnant and left the defense out there one series too long. Our strategy of possession and slowing down the game is perfectly sound. If we hadn't done that, we would not have won a single game after CP left. It's just that the people trying to execute the strategy are not good enough and we need to get better or it will come back to bite us again.

The Big 12 was very good top to bottom but the lack of a great team did make the conference look less than stellar in the two biggest bowl games. But what conference other than the SEC is clearly better? The Pac 12 is probably the closest, but they were 1-2 against the Big 12 in the bowls. Big 12 is still the second or third best conference in the country even without that one great team.

It works when you have a strong offensive line and a good running back.

No offense to any of the lineman this year but only Blaize Foltz would have started on any of our lines from 2008-2010. We have had a serious dropoff in offensive line talent from the Rose Bowl where we had studs like Cannon, Vernon, Roth, Kirkpatrick, and Dooley, and even our 2011 line was far better than the 2012 edition. I say this with no disrespect for our line this year. James Fry and Eric Tausch are good lineman, but weren't on the same level as our past lines. And Collins/Fabajule are young and inexperienced but have a lot of upside.

Throw that in with the fact we lost 3 all conference running backs and had to throw a true freshman in there who is still undersized was supposed to redshirt. Tucker did come back but was never at 100% all season.

Having no run game or offensive line puts all the pressure on the QB's arm.

SEC had some real [Craig James] burgers this bowl season (LSU, Miss St, and Florida)

Florida, 3rd ranked team, had the biggest embarrassment of any team this bowl. Dominated by an average Loiuisville team

No one is going to dispute that our OL was not as good as what we've come to expect and selling drugs and not showing up for class and doing any work is responsible for that. The later is responsible for for one of the RB's trying to go to the NFL. But, we knew that going in and we saw nothing--and I do mean nothing--to try and compensate for that and put the OL in a better position to succeed. Too many times we basically conceded first down putting us in 2d and long and 3rd and long where the other team just brought everyone because the QB in an empty backfield didn't know what he was supposed to do and when he did, could not accurately deliver passes. And, even when we had an elite QB, he spent his time running way too many short side options and the like and we were all asking when we were going to open up the playbook and stop being so vanilla. Well, that was the playbook. And it was not a good one.

There are three starting rookie Quarterbacks in the NFL right now from the Big 12 last year. I'm not sure if that has ever happened in history. Yes it's only one position but the most important one on the field.
And next year we will see one team without their QB who was a Heisman finalist this year and two others who were pre-season Heisman contenders. Kind of comical now that Geno and Landry were ever in that discussion but they will still be hard to replace.
The Big 12 is most certainly down this year and next year may be even worse.
