Women's Bball

What is the deal with the girls? Honestly asking. Haven't kept up with them much this year and went to first game tonight because my wife is friends with one of the Tech coaches.

But the women's team score I think 4 or 6 points over about 10 minutes. Just looked really out of sync. Injuries? Youth? Coaching?

seems like WBB has gone down hill the past several years
why?

I think it started a "decline" when Larry Tidwell left. The competition in the B12 is definitely better. Three teams in this league have won national championships at one time or another so there is a history of competition at a high level and we do have a very young team but something is missing.

This is not meant as in insult or slam at Jeff Mittie as I think he is a great guy and a good coach and he has always been very nice to me but I am not sure that he can take them beyond the level they are at and have been for several years.

I hope that he proves me wrong

Is it time for a change?
I have been down on Mittie since he took a team with 5 starters back that should have been a borderline Sweet 16 team and couldn't even get them to a conference title or a NCAA bid in a bad conference. However, we are probably better off letting him see what he can do for a few years. The team has certainly been headed downhill for awhile, but maybe some of this can be placed on the fact that TCU left CUSA for the MWC. CUSA was a decent women's basketball conference, but I think he had a hard time convincing legitimate players to go play in the MWC.

I do not think Mitte is the guy to get the job done. The team has defintely gone from okay to not okay. The team that he had when the girl from Sweden was playing did not live up to their ability. I believe Mitte was given a new contract recently so he will be with us for awhile.

I was frustrated when they gave Mitte a contract extension (and presumably a raise) last year. It was unearned and premature, and we didn't need to be locking ourselves into a long-term deal like that.

In CDC's defense, though, Mitte has been incredibly loyal to TCU, and I suppose they wanted to give him a few years in the Big 12. I expect him to get 2 more years and then move on.

Tidwell told me that it was going to be harder to recruit in the MWC.

Yah, I was pretty down when he couldn't get that team (with the 5 returning starters) further. Haven't been impressed with him at all since.

I did have a friend who said they were just young and that they were bring in like 4 or 5 recruits who were all McDonald's All-American nominees. If that is the case, then that is at least good.

Mittie can still recruit OK, based off the last two classes.

CDC clearly believes in him, his deal was set to be done after this season and CDC gave him an extension last fall...

Is he a good enough coach to turn his prospects into a team capable of making the tournament like it used to?

Probably a question that is above our pay grade right now.

think you are on to something regarding Tidwell. he was the recruiter
hasn't he done faily well at Lamar?

Larry has done well. Not many people realize that he was a very successful women's basketball coach at the high school level. That was way before he went into coaching at the collegiate level but he has some experience in the hot seat.

He was the one who brought all of the great players to TCU. Sandora Irvin, the girl from Iceland, just to name a few. I was in his office one day before the fall signing day and was listening to him talk to a recruit. He spoke to her a few minutes, told her to be sure and fax in her LOI at 8:00am the next day and then asked to speak to her "mama". He spent the next 10 minutes, swapping recipes, gossiping and talking like he was a member of the ladies sewing circle. When he finished, he hung up, winked at me and said "you gotta recruit the mamas."

I would hope that if Mittie ever does leave, TCU would at least give Larry an interview and I would have to think this could be his dream job.

Yah, Tidwell was great.
