Will Josh stay or take the $ this time around?

Unless Briles gets some offer he can't refuse, which is hard to see.
Yeah. We're stuck with him. He can't coach, can't run an offense, and he can't call a game. Nobody will touch him, and Sonny won't fire his little Nepo Boy.

Hoov was very ill-served by Nepo Boy this year. He looked great in the first game, and then steadily disintegrated as the year progressed. Whatever good things he learned with a QB Guru over the Spring and Summer were beaten out of him by Week 4, what with the tutelage of his QB Coach (That would be Nepo Boy) and complete lack of protection while passing 60+% of the time.

We ended the year (out of 136 FBS teams) 31st in total offense, 33rd in yards per play, and 42nd in points scored. And 10th in passing. Certainly not great, but not bad either considering the O-line play (and o-line talent).

I know you have me blocked but I'll say it again. You're an ass.

Hoover is fourth in the nation in passing yards with 3,472
Hoover is 18th in the nation in total offense
His completion rate is 66%
He is 13th in the nation in points responsible for
TCU is 9th in the nation in passing offense at 292.8
TCU is 31st in total offense (run game needs improvement)
TCU is 26th in passing efficiency

Room for improvement is points scored (we had a several-week downward slide before the Houston and Cincy games which I attribute to Hoover being banged up).
Also red zone offense needs improvement.

All this to say I don't have big problem with Briles other than he gets a little cutesy when cutesy is not needed. There are just a couple of areas that need improvement. Turnovers especially interceptions which can be helped with a better OL to keep help Hoover from scrambling and making some poor decisions and throws. Also a better OL to improve the run game.

Those are not necessarily Briles' fault though as OC it falls on him and Dykes to fix.

A pretty unheralded 3-star recruit and if stays another year and stays healthy he's going to shatter just about every TCU passing record there is. Yeah, he gets careless and throws too many INTs but to say Briles (and Dykes) have done him a disservice is an absolute joke.

Maybe Brewing isn't the a-hole I am, but he's a clown.

Offensive efficiency was ranked 35, just behind SMU.

...And our record is? We are what our record says we are, and all the glittering stats mean little when the score goes against you.

Obviously I detest Briles, hated the hire, and thus the bar to clear was set quite high to begin with. There were two dozen guys who we could have looked at, but Sonny knew who he wanted, and Sonny can't help but do favors for his pals. We are getting what he produced at several stops before: Lots of glittering stats, but mediocre W-L records. No change. We had little to no consistency through the season, and for a time stumbled from one blunder to another. Player evaluation has been ghastly, and I very much doubt that we are getting the very best out of the talent we have.

My opinion of Hoov is extremely positive, and I believe him to be a rare talent and a very special player. Yet, as I said, I don't believe he is getting the training he needs, or the schemes under which he would perform to the best of his ability. I must also allow for the fact that few players perform well when running for their life in the backfield, so there is that...

The offense had its moments but it definitely didn’t have moments either, and for very long stretches.

Talking about yards and whatnot reminds me of all my Tech friends when I lived in Lubbock. They loved stats, loved them!…and they still finished with 8-5/7-6/5-7 records despite all those stats.

I think Josh stays. I’m not sure his bag has really increased off this past season given the interceptions and whatnot. If he had blown this season out, a larger offer may have been out there.

Where did they measure on red zone success?

I think Hoover stays. I am not sure there is a great spot for him, but that could easily change if the OC changes.

I don't think Johnny Tapefingers job is as secure as people think. The seat is way too warm for Dykes, and next year is very much a prove it year for him. Does Dykes trust a coach who seems to forget how to score points for half a season? I don't think there are going to be too many future option for Dykes after TCU. Overall he is about a .570 coach who has only finished one season with a ranked team. I also think there is going to be someone locally stupid enough to lure Tapefingers away. Too many jobs opened with not enough assistants moving. He is also more respected in the coaching circles than he is with fans.
