Why is UT so young?

Lots of "young" Texas team, blah, blah on the telecast Thursday. Not much about TCU. Looking at the depth charts, TCU and Texas are close on offense (65.5% fr, RSfr or sophs for TCU, 63.9% for Texas), TCU much younger on defense (85.2% vs. 60%).

Looking at just last 4 years, the Rivals list: TCU 86 recruits, 5*=0, 4*=11. Texas 95 recruits, 5*=8, 4*=59. So we like to downplay the stars, lets say all of TCU's were rated correctly, half of Texas' were grossly overrated: TCU 5*=0, 4*=11; Texas 5*=4, 4*=29. Doesn't add up, does it. Of course, Texas is not all that young by TCU standards this year, just the media cannot say "Texas team" without adding "young" before "Texas team." This of course does not count 5th year Seniors, either. One thing is Texas has more attrition. But beyond that?

I'm hoping they keep Mack in Austin, guys. For a long time. I'm sure he is playing the "young" card this year. Ever notice how bad (or in Texas' case, underachieving) programs keep having a young team? That was true at TCU during many of the bad years including Sullivan's tenure.

Check out UTx's won - loss records in 2010 and 2011.

And 2012 is no bed of roses for them, so far, despite 8 wins to date.

All that losing is no road to a "T ring" for individual players, and they have to get replacements somewhere.

Texas really has 28 players who were not rated four or five stars? How did that happen? Somebody at Rivals has been slipping up.

Every year Texas boots about ten upper classmen off the team and replaces them with Freshmen that obviously aren't very good.

I would like to read an analysis, referencing the above recruiting scenario, as to what happened at taxes?

Name names and assign blame. Players, coaches, admins. Somewhere, something broke and it ain't fixed yet.

Young, while true, is a smokescreen.

So tired of hearing the "Texas is young" nonsense. Hell its been 3 years running now and when your recruiting classes are top 3 every year, you should still be able to play within 40 points of your main rival and not get dominated at home in a late season must win game by a team even younger than you. West coast is correct, they are "so young" because the turnover of the 5 star prima donnas is through the roof down there, every year they lose 10 guys who were promised stuff by Mack and when they realize they wont be playing, they bail. Bigger thing that pisses me off is they really arent "that young" in the first place.. Take 3 starters on offense, Ash, Shipley, Espinoza. They are all 3 sophomores so that normally indicates "youth", however all 3 have started 24 college names by now so i would hardly call that "young" as opposed to TCU which has a 2 deep littered with RS frosh that didnt play last year and true frosh 6 months removed from their sr prom. Big difference

Case McCoy only got an offer because of his brother- he was only rated as 3* I believe, also depending on the website. UT recruiting has a lot of nepotism and politics that go along with it.

Your statistics also fails to adjust the numbers for all the talented players that leave UT each season. I can't find the stat, but I believe their annual attrition rate is the highest in the nation for players that transfer to another school or leave the program non-graduating.
