The Man Behind The Curtain
I'll kick this off... some of you know that I work for a few distilleries and if you've ever come by the KillerFrogs tailgate we typically have a good selection of whisky floating around (Hunter's preference for Fireball not withstanding). So, let's hear from our members, what is your go to favorite brown liquor for tailgating or watching sports?

A few of mine are (in no particular order):
  • Laphroaig (any)
  • Glenfiddich 15
  • Knob Creek Rye

For some reason, Dalmore has always been my jam. Dalmore 12 is my go to, the Cigar Malt / Gran Reserva when it's available is my "special occassion" cocktail. Also enjoy Glenfiddich 15, Arberlour 12, and Balvenie Doublewood.

Best I've ever had: When we first started trying to have a kid, we agreed to put a few bucks a month in to the celebration bottle we would buy. Well it ended up taking about 2 years, so we had quite a bit saved up and bought this:

(also note, it wasn't nearly as expensive as it is today. In 2015 it was maybe 1/3 the price. Still, it's a once-in-a-lifetime bottle, and it was worth it)

That's a great one Todd, was able to sample it in Vegas one year during a whiskey show I was working. Speaking of special bottles for a birth of a kid, this was the one I bought to celebrate my son's birth 10 years ago:

Been working on a bottle of the original release of Ardbeg Supernova in 2009 for 11 years. It’s a Peat Monster and that is the my kryptonite. Might be another 20 years before I defeat it.

Dad got to travel to Scotland in the early 80's. He had a love for good Scotch, so he visited a few of the distilleries. At one, (I believe Laphroaig) the grizzled old Scot manning the bar handed him a glass of their best and said "You've got to be verra determined to get that down."

Nice. I’ve had the Macallan 21 once, at Texas de Brazil. I bought 2 rounds because I felt bad that the bar tender had to climb the ladder to get it. I also tipped her well, because I enjoyed watching her climb the ladder.

Definitely a single malt scotch lover. However as a change of pace suggest trying single malt Irish whiskey. I like Redbreast (made by Jameson) Big step up from standard blended Irish whiskeys. Comes in 12, 15, 21, and 27 YO. If you haven’t had it would start with the 15, then move up. The flavors are different but a nice change, and for sipping/ nosing, etc it is similar to the scotch experience but with different set of flavors, aromatics, finish, etc.

Redbreast 21 is magnificent, but the price point these days is ridiculous. I buy a bottle of their 12 cask strength once a year. Great stuff.

Glenlivet was my first Scotch. I’ve moved on too other brands, but I bought this and have really enjoyed it. It goes well with this end of Summer/beginning of Fall time of year

During our vacation back in July the Mrs. and I visited the Peerless distillery in Louisville (it was just a few blocks from our hotel) and I can't recommend their Bourbon and Rye enough. If you find a bottle, grab it.
