If so, it’s not going to be a very good program at all. Making the playoffs isn’t that big a deal anymore.

GP will have plenty of head coaching options presuming the USC defense plays well this year and USC makes the playoffs.

He might have plenty of options but is he mentally and emotionally equipped to deal with today's athlete and todays football reality? We are in a new era(for better or worse...my vote is for worse) and I just don't think he would have the patience for it, the kids, their agents/advisers and all the other garbage that today's college football world brings. That's not a knock on him. How may of us would have the patience for all the nonsense?

I totally agree with you but I just think he has to find out if he can succeed again in this environment as a head coach (if a good job presents itself). He didn’t get to walk away on his terms. I think he needs to try to write a different ending. Even if it’s him going someplace to coach for 4-5 years and then walk away on his own terms and hand it off to an assistant coach.

Sometimes even great ones/legends don't get that option. See Switzer and Woody Hayes. Both legends. Both had a shelf life.
