What IS a "safety plan" for football players?

Anybody know? I've been seeing this all over, and today Russell Wilson and DeMarcus Lawrence joined in the demand. Give us a "safety plan" or we won't play. What the hell is a safety plan for football players?

They can choose not to play and don’t get paid. FB players get paid per season played. They don’t get paid sitting out. They can choose to sit, that is their choice to do so.

I do not see it being issue. Choose to play or choose not to.

What about college players?

Good question. I guess they could choose to sit. I don’t know if that would affect scholarship status or not. Probably depend on the school and the player’s situation. They will lose a year of eligibility unless NCAA grants a waiver for those choosing to sit. Easier to sit for those that plan to redshirt.

Seems to be that most want to play. Secondly, plenty of players want to improve their chance at A NFL future if college games are played. I think most will play.

HS players are wanting to play. I think CFB players probably share that sentiment. The pros, a lot more complex. Younger guys and older non stars will play. The star that can afford to sit a season in the middle of a lucrative contract is in a better position to sit than others.

As I've said before, offer scholarship players the choice at the beginning of the season with no threat of losing their scholarship. They can choose to sit (albeit they lose a year of eligibility) but they may get passed by players that choose to play. I'll bet 98% will choose to play the season. The school then avoids liability.
