WFAA: TCU gives Big East a boost in football

FORT WORTH — The biggest impact will come on the football field because as a member of the Big East, TCU will now be a member of a conference which belongs to the BCS.
“Obviously, there is an automatic qualifying berth that goes along with this,” says TCU head football coach Gary Patterson. “So for us, that obviously played into the realm of things as to how we wanted to do it.” Big East football actually had a down year this year so the addition of TCU gives the conference a boost. And with the BCS reevaluating their member conferences in 2014, the addition of TCU can only help strengthen their conference. “Everyone has ebb and flows,” says TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte. “It was just two years ago they were talking about the Big ten being down or the Pac Ten is down, it's only a one trick pony in USC. Everything is always up and down and right now it's a great conference.” ...
