Weigh in on Shannon move to Arkansas

Let me give you an update on the situation. Arkansas is putting all their hopes in the "we are hiring the best coordinators in the nation". They decided to pull together a large amount of cash to make this plan happen. This strategy also makes them feel better about not getting the head coaches they tried so hard to get.

As for Shannon they threw a bunch of stupid money at him. In their minds getting Shannon was one more way to feel better about themselves and get some type of foothold in Texas. Remember Arkansas has failed against TCU in recruiting which is indicative of how their pipeline has eroded in Texas.

It is a little bit of a loss for TCU but not terminal. The real concern right now is getting a serious DT or two so that TCU maintains elite depth at the position. Losing Shannon is a loss that TCU can overcome. Losing Patterson would be different story.

As for the TCU offense-just remember it has been worse. Anyone remember Schultz?

I think I he wants to get back into a quality head coaches role he needs to move around a bit. It's just the way it goes. You have to roll around and make new contacts with other coaches and administrators. If you sit tight it shows complacency and prohibits broadening your contacts. He will now have contact at some level with the SEC coaches as well as with some B1G schools through fatty. It's probably the right move for him especially when you consider he just saw a pretty hefty pay raise.

The Curious Case of Randy Shannon. Guess I don't know the whole Miami story, but shocked he can't get another head coach job, or even a big D coordinator job in a year like this w/ all the NCAA & NFL turnover. If there is something big there, guess it makes sense to grab the cash. Thoughts?

Not so sure this Offense is any better than Schultz years? We always bagged on Schultz over the short side option over use.Is it really any worse than the current zone read up the middle crap we're constantly getting this season for little or no gain?
Both had their head scratching play strategy issues for sure.

It's a shame that Coach Shannon left, but I know LHCGP will find someone just as good to help us move the program forward and win a Big 12 Championship!! In Gary I trust!

He's black. Fired black head coaches rarely get a second chance. Ty Willingham is the only one I can think of.

How much money did he get to leave?

Don't know the amount but let me try to make this simple.

The chasm is huge between head coach and assistants. It is a lot easier to buy an assistant coach than it is a head coach. It takes a lot more than money to get a head coach. TCU could go to just about any team in the nation and overpay an assitant to make the move. I do think GP is perfectly capable of finding the right assistant at the right price without having to worry about a high profile name.

Shannon deciding to leave was simply about money. Remember that Arky did not get it's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and possibly 6th choice when it came to head coach.

I don't think one year coaching and recruiting in Texas makes him a Texas recruiter. What they got was a great recruiter, but they didn't get him for his Texas connections that's for sure. Now if you're talking about his Florida connections, then you'd be right.
