We should not have lost that game

Conversation all night at my watching party, "too close, hope we don't muff a punt".

Oh well, super excited about next year. Chip on shoulder, Go Frogs!

Our number 1 spring goal - work 5 potential kick returners. Teach them to catch the ball and not fumble. It should have been done multiple times this year but apparently our special teams coach is too stupid to make this happen.

[sub]When we didn't take advantage of the other scoring opportunities we had in the first half I had a bad feeling about the game. We should've been up at least 21-0 at the half, and it came back to bite us in the rear. [/sub]

Watching from home, I thought we were a much better team, so much more athletic. We should have rolled that team. And yet we lost.

Win by just one? Hogwash during this game. Shoulda won by 30. Difference in talent was night and day.

While track star #11 nailed the coffin tonight, Boykin was under pressure all night - credit to the MSU DLine or just the TCU O line just wasn't up for this classic BigTen slug-em type of lineman - the O-line shares the L with Mr SD. Give him his diploma, a handshake and best wishes. He'll never make it in the pros.

(I fault #11 for one thing only...yes he fumbled a difficult punt in a critical area...but made things worse when he tried to PICK UP his fumble and lost the ball again. Fundamental football...fall on the ball and wrap up...don't try to be a hero. If he had it would have been Frog ball at the 4 and the 14-13 score wouldn't have materialized. The MSU O - other than RB LBell was pretty futile and they wouldn't have gotten another TD -IMO!)

TCU beat themselves plain and simple. Now we as fans have to live through a whole offseason of smack from everyone. Can't wait for football season to start. This is going to be the longest offseason.

Dawson was scary and inconsistent all year long. He should have been pulled from punt duty long before this. He doesn't seem to be able to judge the ball well and ends up trying to catch the ball with outstretched hands far too often. Doesn't matter now. I feel bad for him that this is how his senior year ended.

Boykin had a horrendous night throwing, overall (yes the pass to Listenbee was very good). Too many passes not near a receiver to even make an attempt on the ball. MSU defense figured out that Boykin wasn't much of a worry and so they made things even more difficult by blitzing...well, they did that from the beginning, but it got more and more effective as the game went on.

Stop blaming Skye. Did he make a mistake? Yes, but I feel awful for him. We lost the game from our pathetic OL, play calling, and horrible passes. The muffed punt should have not even mattered if we we are up by 28 like we should have been

Punt returner beat us. But point other poster made that we should have been up 21-0 also spot on. I just hate it that we lost on a mental error (yes, the fumble was a mental mistake in this case).

Didn't Dawson muff it on the 5 yard line, why get anywhere near the ball at that point?

When Boykin went on the training table the Michigan St. DC unleashed the dogs and said go for it. If Boykin can't run there is no reason to have him at QB.

So, Boykin didn't beat us with 3,000 inaccurate passes today? You people blaming the loss one one guy are pathetic!! Of course he muffed it and cost us 7 points, but again...we should have been up by 21 or 28 then.

The muffed punt didn't cost us the game. It was 7 or 8 offensive plays in which our QB couldn't deliver the ball within as little as 5 yards of a wide-open receiver. That's what cost us the game. As Marathonman noted, as much as we dominated the first half, we should have been up at least 21-0 at the break. Possibly more.

Had we done that, Dawson's muffed punt wouldn't have been the game-changer it was. And it was a game-changer only because we had previously blown so many golden scoring opportunities. The Michigan State defense didn't deny us. Our offense didn't fail to execute properly. Our receivers didn't fail to get open. Boykin just couldn't deliver the ball anywhere near the receivers, even when they opened up 2-3 yards of separation from the coverage.

That was the game-changer.

Uh, I think only one person really suggested that the loss was one guy's fault.

However, Dawson's mistake was huge, as it essentially handed 7 points to MSU (not to mention that due to performance issues throughout the season, he shouldn't have been back there to begin with...but that's another story). Doesn't alleviate offensive blame, though. We had to give up on the run and rely on our very inconsistent passing game.

Not in the first half he wasn't. The Michigan State defense hadn't yet figured out our offense at that point. He had time and the receivers were open. He just couldn't deliver the ball anywhere within a catchable distance of them.
