Me too. I also thought LSU made a terrible hire in Orgeron. Eating some crow so far on that one just a bit.

There is tremendous power in hiring for culture. Orgeron for all his faults, fits about everything you could want culturally at LSU. It’s paying off...

Unfortunately I can’t name a single coach outside of GP that “symbolizes” TCU football.

I think what is paying off more than anything is he made a quality hire(s) on the offensive side of the ball and has stayed out of their way. Kudos to him for doing that though, sometimes that's the right thing to do.

I think GP is the best thing that ever happened to TCU football, and also he's doing a bad job this season. I still have confidence in his tactical acumen, but I think he's doing much worse at (1) hiring assistants, and (2) talent identification and development than he used to. But sure, he's a smart guy and might get it all turned around. And I also agree that the odds are our next coach won't be as good.

The A&M hire of Jimbo Fisher could be even worse. Fisher's record will be better than Taggart's. In terms of return on investment, I think he will be a much worse deal than Taggart was.

First off, what are Fisher's credentials? He did win a National Championship in 2014. They eked past Auburn 34-31. Remember why they played Auburn? The kick six. If not for the kick six in the Iron Bowl, I don't think Jimbo would even have a National Championship under his belt. If FSU faced off against Bama in the final BCS National Championship I think they would've lost by a healthy margin.

That's WITH Jameis Winston, who is one of the best college QB's of all time. Without Winston, Fisher's record against P5 competition is 23-17. After Winston, Fisher's record at FSU was 25-12 overall, 14-10 in the ACC.

When you go out and pay $7.5 million for 10 years (currently #4 behind Swinney, Saban, & Harbaugh) you expect some top 5 finishes and Conference Championships. I don't think A&M can count on either in Jimbo's tenure. At least Swinney and Saban have earned their skins. Paying Jimbo and Harbaugh that kind of money is insane.

Hard to replace a legend for sure. Hopefully we see some necessary changes with assistants and hiring some analysts. And Gary can win his national championship he so deserves at TCU.

I think most TCU grads should have nimble enough brains to know that GP is a brilliant football mind that we are lucky to have all these years AND also that change is a must even for the gifted. He needs to be more fluid in how he manages this program.
Very much agree. Some people act like this is North Korea and you can't criticize any facet of the regime's management. Love GP and he's a great coach but he needs to make some changes to his staff and adapt his methods a bit.

my concern going forward is gary's willingness to adapt and evolve as he hasn't exactly surrounded himself with an environment of new and different thinking on the defensive side of the ball.

quick exercise, look at the bios of each defensive assistant and take note of where they worked as a full time assistant prior to coming to the tcu staff.

that doesn't mean the various can't be good teachers of their various positions, don't know the key skill sets to be an effective player, or that they can't be productive recruiters.

the concern is where do the new ideas come from, where is the stimulus to evolve and adapt, if everyone has a common origin, taught in the same system, by the same teacher?

Agree on both, but I'd think there is a hell of a lot better chance for Harbaugh to succeed at Meesheegun than for Jimbo to ever do anything at aggy.

When what your doing doesn’t work you have to try something different. Right now he hasn’t changed anything.

Unless you know the best thing to do is to stick with a plan that takes time to develop. Making changes every time things slow down can also be foolish. I trust the guy with 20 plus years of successful experience. Leaders do what they think is best regardless of the chattering wind. That takes courage, which is why great leaders rare.

We are incredibly blessed to have Gary Patterson as our coach. As posted earlier he needs to look into the mirror and wonder if his staff is on his level. Changes need to be made and, hopefully, he sees that and makes the appropriate changes.
