per ST:
Muck Brown said three seniors with remaining eligibility have elected to give up football: OG Thomas Ashcraft, TE Trey Graham and DT Kyle Kriegel

Ashcraft: 4 star ESPN grade 82
Graham: 3 star ESPN grade 79
Kriegel: 3 star ESPN grade 78

from (W)hornsnation:
The departures of Thomas Ashcraft, Kyle Kriegel and Trey Graham from the Texas program is more tough news for a 2009 recruiting class that was already much-maligned.
That No. 3-ranked class included 20 promising future Longhorns. Transfers and departures left Texas with only two senior leaders from that group this season: Kenny Vaccaro and Alex Okafor.

In fact, Ashcraft, Kriegel and Graham giving up their final season means that only six signees from 2009 -- Okafor, Vaccaro,
Barrett Matthews, Chris Whaley, Mason Walters and Garrett Porter -- will play out their full eligibility as Longhorns.

... By giving up their senior seasons, they open up spots in the 85-man roster for members of another promising Texas recruiting class, one that will need plenty of its signees to pan out if the Longhorns hopes to compete for national titles again.

When will Texas recruits learn that going to UT will NOT advance their football career?

TCU 2009 recruits down to 9 of 21. Including two players who weren't on campus last semester, and one who could still decide to declare for the NFL. 3 or 4 more who didn't contribute in 2012. Glass houses.

Many of the recruiting busts from the 09 Texas class had offers from Patterson including Calvin Howell, Dominique Jones, Tevin Mims, Trey Graham, marcus Davis & Kenny Vaccaro.

So was Texas' class a failure due to evaluation? Or development?

After last season should anyone associated with TCU football in any way be talking smack regarding this topic?Just wondering?

A bit misleading.

Of the 20 recruits from the 2009 class...

11 of 20 were on the 2012 roster. Of the 9 early departees, one was Malcolm Williams, who was a JUCO who graduated and is now in the NFL, and another is expected to return (James Dunbar). So that's 7 who completely washed out. Of those 11 on the roster, Josh Boyce, Matthew Tucker and Kenny Cain all graduated. I think our class measures up quite favorably.

Edit: I guess you can add Maponga to the departee list, but it would be disingenuous to say he was a failure and washed out.

There was an article in one of the Oklahoma papers last summer talking about how weak the 2009 class had been for the entire conference. It talked mostly about OU and OSU, but also mentioned Tech and some others. I know the Tech class from 2009 was one of the worst performing in several years.

Unfortunately we lost too many to drug problems! Brock, Yendrey, Horn, and Jurell Thompson! Imagine having those guys plus Paschall, Boyce, James, Maponga, and Dunbar in the lineup.

How does Mac get so many athletes to give up their senior years? School is expensive, even at a state university.
