The thing is how much will the casual fan care? When Amon Carter stadium has been full, its been on the backs of casual fans and visiting fans.

If whatever conference/league we play in is considered 2nd tier FCS level football, will the casual fan even care?

And not every TCU grad is a die hard fan - there are plenty of fairweather bandwagon TCU fans - how much will they care if we are relegated to an FCS style existence?

Sam Houston State is a power at the FCS level - how much do their fans and graduates care that they dominate at the FCS level?
NDSU Bison care, but not a lot of competing entertainment options around Fargo.

Arizona schools, Utah, and Colorado offers should be tendered immediately. They’ll jump for more money. Then offer Oregon and Washington with huge grant of rights and buy-outs with 48 hours to make a decision. They’ll have to take it. Big 10 is waiting. SEC isn’t taking them. ACC? Hahaha.
Colorado adds nothing to any of the current conferences. Utah can compete for a conference title and has a fan base.

Tbh don’t need 2 Arizona schools - neither have been relevant more than a season or two over the past ~15 years and UA is at a low point with ASU facing sanctions.

Rather have Pitt and Louisville / VT when they get left for dead in ACC after poaching

IMO conferences want state flagship universities and their travel partners. Colorado, Utah and the Arizonas fit that bill. Teams may be good or bad, but that can always change.

What am I thinking, conferences want whomever TV tells them. $$$

The non Big 10/SEC schools will be feeder systems and farm leagues for the Big 10/SEC. Any time we have a good player as a freshman they will gone. It will be Zach Evans multiple times every year. NIL won't matter - the Big 10/SEC schools will be able to match any offer we make while also being higher in prestige

Just look at Baylor as much as it sucks to say that. I was listening to sic'em365 (they have good stuff on Big 12 in general), and they had someone on who researched teams who continued to fight to get into better conferences, and those who chose to downgrade.

What he discovered is that even if your team gets their rear ends beat every Saturday, you're better off getting your teeth kicked-in in a good conference, than sliding to a lower tier conference.

What was his idea of “better off”?

Money. Money. Money. Money leads to facility upgrades...stadium upgrades...players...etc.

Look how many years Baylor got curb stomped, but they rode that pain out, survived the Briles saga, and are highly competitive. That doesn't happen if Baylor slides down.

Look at us (besides these last few seasons due to stubborn Patterson), from WAC to CUSA to MWC to Big East to Big 12. Rose Bowl, Peach Bowl, Alamo Bowl and respectable recognition. None of that happens if we decide we have a comfortable niche in the MWC.
