It’s probably too late. OSU‘s recruiting class was mediocre at best, they lose 80% of their OL, most of their WRs, and Bowman, and Ollie Gordon declared for the draft.
Unless OSU lands a king’s ransom in the portal next week, they’ll be a multi-year laughing stock, and who wants to transfer to a school with the HC on the hot seat.

Take a pay cut, give the savings to NIL, try to buy some players. That trend is likely a reality for the teams not in the top 15 or so in terms of football department wealth and prestige. Programs are going to be willing to take a cheaper coach to get better players for the staff to coach. The pendulum has swung back against paying your coach big money for a majority of programs in the country.

Gundy better bring some studs for the OL & DL if they are going to compete for a league title. Our much-maligned OL and DL dominated them at ACS. They will need to fill a lot of holes in the portal if they are going to be a good team next year. Gundy's recruiting class was very mediocre.

It’s possible that it was just a normal contract talk that the media made into something else.

NIL is a scourge on college football. One unintended consequence may be that coaches massively bloated salaries and contracts will be normalized in order to fund it.
