Ultimatum

Great eight inning stretch stuff. Now there is an ultimatum for Nebraska and Missou. I think Texas is going to beat them up if they don't agree. I wish Tom Osborne would tell Texas to eat it.

Here it is:

Nebraska and Missouri have been given an ultimatum by the Big 12 and told they have until this Friday to decide if they want to remain in the conference or entertain the possibility of joining the Big Ten, two highly placed officials of two Big 12 schools said Saturday.

The deadline was given to the pair of schools by the Big 12 presidents during the league meetings held in Kansas City this past week.

"Nebraska has until 5 p.m. on Friday to tell us what they're going to do," one school official said, adding that he has heard that deadline could be extended to June 15. "The same deal for Missouri. They have to tell us they're not going to the Big Ten or \u2026 ."

Or at least six Big 12 schools — including Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech — will be inclined to accept an invitation to join the Pac-10 Conference. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado are the other three schools that could leave what would be a dissolving Big 12.

Nebraska and Missouri could be taking the risk that they might not be extended invitations from the Big Ten, which has said it could take up to 18 months to decide whether to expand its current membership of 11 schools.

"I've talked to the Pac-10," said the Big 12 school administrator, who expected the speculation involving the Big 12 to be resolved within two weeks. "There is an invitation. When it comes, it'll come fast."

One Pac-10 athletic director told the Statesman on Saturday, "There's still a lot that has to happen. It's nowhere near done. At this point, we have not been presented any definite plans."

Said another political figure heavily connected to Texas, "I know the war drums are beating. This is way beyond gossip."

Controversy Ensues as Huskers, Missouri, tiptoe deadline

Kansas City (AP) - It was a tense day for Big XII administrators in Kansas City, Missouri. The 5:00 PM deadline given to the University of Nebraska and the University of Missouri to commit to the Big 12 ticked away.

Dan Beebe, Big XII commisioner, stood in his office in Dallas, Texas, watching the clock. Bo Pelini, and Tom Osborne, the two representatives for the University of Nebraska, were nowhere to be found.

The rest of the Big XII administrators waited in Beebe's office as the fate of the Big XII hung in the balance. It was 4:59 PM. 60 seconds left. Mack Brown, present on behalf of the Texas Longhorns, displayed his typical stoneface and appeared cool and collected.

Ten seconds were left... then 5... 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.. and, finally, 0.

Mack Brown raised his hands into the air in celebration, and ran across the room, hootin' and hollerin', as the clock reached zero. Fellow Longhorn administrators exchanged hi-fives --- but just then, Bo Pelini runs into the room, ready to announce the Husker's decision.

"But the clock expired!" clamored Mack Brown and the Longhorn camp. "It's over!"

Pelini asked for 1 second to be put back on the clock, in order to give him time for one more try. Big XII head of officiating, Walt Anderson, ruled that 1 second should be placed back on the clock because it was clear that there was an egregious clock error.

Mack Brown and the Longhorn camp were furious, as Pelini was given just enough time to place one more signature, worth 3 points toward a Big 10 membership, which in the end, was all the Huskers needed.

I think is the most reliable media. They cater to both MU and KU folks, so they are trying to sort it out from a different perspective. They also do not have the Texas kool aid in the cooler.
