NORMAN — Bob Stoops has been in Gary Patterson’s shoes.
Like Stoops did in 2006, Patterson dismissed his starting quarterback from the team at the start of what was supposed to be a promising college football season.
Like Patterson’s TCU team has this season, Stoops’ ’06 Sooners struggled to cope, though they eventually did, and the program became stronger for it.
TCU hosts OU on Saturday in Fort Worth in the season finale.
Patterson booted Casey Pachall in October after Pachall’s DUI arrest. Pachall had previous substance abuse problems, and after the campus drug ring bust last winter, Patterson and TCU — that’s Texas “Christian” University, remember — had to draw the line. ...
