Tulsa World: Defense helps Oklahoma State rally to beat TCU

STILLWATER - This is how well Oklahoma State is playing defense: For the first time since 1986 - when Mike Gundy was a freshman quarterback - the Cowboys have held three consecutive conference opponents below 20 points.

But, with vital offensive skill-position players on (or freshly off) the wounded list, OSU still needed to find a way to manufacture enough points to get past Big 12 newcomer TCU.

Jeremy Smith provided a spark by scoring a touchdown on a fourth-and-goal run in the third quarter and the Cowboys scored 27 points in the last 23 minutes to post a 36-14 triumph Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Quinn Sharp matched a school record with five field goals, Joseph Randle carried a career-high 32 times for 126 yards, Josh Stewart caught six balls for 120 yards and first-year freshman quarterback Wes Lunt returned from the injured list to throw for 324 yards as OSU improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 games. ...
