I can see where a quick prayer after to thank God would be in order. I have had a similar situation. In the rain. I had to dodge someone coming across and somehow manage to correct after the car I was in went to spin. Full rotation and revovered. I pulled off at the next exit to compose myself. State Trooper pulled up to make sure I was ok. (he was behind us). Told me I did everything I should and credited me with what he said was one of the best recoveries he had seen. I didn't have the whereabouts of mind at that point to let him know I could never do that again even if I had training and practice. my hands shook for half an hour.
I had a situation which was entirely different but has similarities. In my mid 20s I was driving on a highway behind a flatbed truck. A big piece of cardboard flew off the back. I remember thinking that it wouldn't be a big deal if I hit it, but I instinctively swerved into the next lane to avoid it. As I passed it I looked over and realized it wasn't cardboard but sheet metal.

That wouldn't have gone well for me.

yikes.
I'm big on the dont drive when drinking view. And experiences like the ones several of us have mentioned are all the proof ya need. it's so crazy on the roads these days. just better to have your senses and full speed and ready to act.

I was thinking about the Muckleroy family as we drove down 281 this past Thanksgiving. This tragedy certainly made me hyper aware as we drove the route in heavy traffic. Terrible that this could have been easily prevented.
Beautiful drive down 281, but constant worry with stretches of 2-lane traffic.

We're at a point where DUI should have zero tolerance. First offense mandatory jail time and 1 year loss of license.

Being a single dude in my mid 40s, I date a lot. I always run a background check once I get their #. It's astounding how many single women have DUI/DWIs. At least 25%. Some have multiples. The crazy/hot scale is mostly true. If it was 15-20,yrs ago I'll let it slide but if it's within the last 5 yrs it signals a lack of maturity and is an instant red flag. I have my share of dumbassery but I've got a pretty good feel of my limits and know when to slow down or even just gather my things and call a friend or Uber.
