I bet there was more to the story than Coach Tademy wanting more family time.
If Patterson wanted someone fired, I could see him using a tactic where the person being fired could "save face". Maybe GP allowed Tademy to resign.

I did wonder why the parting of the ways after so long an association and the impressive number of TCU's LBs to qualify for the next level.
Positional Coach not keeping very close tabs on LB's academic progress (or lack thereof)? Not recruiting very well in that key area? GP not liking the surprise of losing players at that position for that reason?
I can participate in sheer speculation with the best/worst of 'em.

There isn't more to the story. GP and staff were surprised by him leaving.

The linebacker spot has been the position with a lot of our problem children recently (both reported and not reported), but I have no idea why Tademy left.

Of course I don't know why Tademy left TCU either, but sometimes people do want to step away from a pressure cooker job for a break. Occasionally the simplest, least cynical explanation is true.
I doubt seriously that a Grambling coordinator has a soft job, even compared to a job on Patterson's staff. That program doesn't have a tradition of half-way effort, even if they are not FBS.

I'll take your word for it, because you always have good info, but it did seem a little fortuitous that an ex-HC and D-Coordinator was just waiting in the wings to be hired as our LB coach. I always assumed Tademy was "encouraged" to leave (or something along those lines) so we could make room for Shannon.

No, I have been told by more than one who knew him and the story, that his wife wanted him at home more to help raise their kids. I can understand that and don't think GP is the kind of guy to concoct face saving stories.
Not everyone is cut out for the commitment of college coaching or at least the commitment for this level

Has Patterson ever fired a coach? Most of them have left to "better" jobs or resigned with a valid reason. Seriously, has he ever fired an assistant?
That is what all my exes said, that is why I hang my hat in Tennessee.

First of all, it's really none of our business but I think that Willie Mack Garza was fired and I think that one of the LB coach's, Kyle Nystrom, was shoved out the door. I also think that his first QB coach, Dan Lounsbury, was released but dont hold me to that

Willie Mack was fired, but there was a reason for that, which wasn't football related.
Nystrom left on his own. Was a good coach, and in no way shoved out the door.
Firing people isn't really part of GP's make up. Outside of Willie Mack, I can't think of anyone who hasn't left on their own to better their situation (as they saw it).

IIRC Patterson may not have had a lot to say about Willie Mack losing his job.
