My point with the chart is that spending is highly correlative with results and you would need to prove otherwise. You have made assertions without evidence. You just state it as it was fact. We don't spend enough and we are 0-1. That seems to support my assertion.
I’ll ask again, what team in the “national conversation” isn’t a big spender? It’s been crickets so far.

ID10T! We can just get into the playoffs with our talent evaluation and player development. We don't need to spend money on players to win. Obviously, we can spend just $2 million on a QB as long as it's the right $2 million and the right player. I mean there are so many other programs that are in the hunt that spend way less at that position. I don't know how to say this any other way, but you can't buy Big XII championships. It just doesn't happen like that.

lol.

Fernando Mendoza was the 4th highest rated transfer QB in his class. We had to let the 8th rated kid go because we couldn’t afford him. If you think Indiana wasn’t spending quite a bit of money I don’t know what to tell you. I think it’s better said that a lot of our donors don’t want our Coach to succeed. He already showed what he could do with a talented roster and it struck the wrong nerve with some people who hate JD, and by association, SD.

As for Hoover, he was a lightly recruited kid that SD went and flipped from Indiana. Basically an afterthought here. 3 years later he’s one of the better QBs in the country. Does anyone give SD a bit of credit for developing a kid who out of high school nobody gave two [ Finebaum ]s about? Nope. All they do is [ hundin] that he turned it over too much. Also coached lightly recruited Jared Goff into the #1 pick in the draft. Any credit? Not really. All they do is wonder in amazement how he didn’t realize Duggan was amazing when he got the job here, even though Duggan was average at best for three years under GP. That’s the kind of stuff I’m talking about.
I don't believe for a second CSD really did much developing of Hoover. What recollection regarding this is there?? One of the biggest development data points for a HC is to have a personal relationship with the kid he is attempting to make a man. SD didn't give Josh Hoover the confidence and coaching to "hold onto the ball" during these 4-6 critical points. SD could not give Hoover or Craig and yes, even Jared Goff the information on how to avoid interceptions on dig & flood routes.

He starts a paper tiger Chandler Morris over a Heisman runner up???? I know that has been touched on dozens of times here. That is why people here are accurately bringing up talent evaluation lacking in the 817. SD did not play football, and I used to think that was OK.

Duggan was not average at best. There were flashes of brilliance with Max. He willed the team to win at times. If SD did not pick up on that and was wowed by one game Morris had against Baylor then what does that say??? Max was the best athlete to play QB at TCU.

There is a book called "Swagger" by Jimmy Johnson wrote that SD should read. He would also benefit if he read "Bootleggers Boy" by Barry Switzer. Both books talked about motivating, enforcing rules and Johnson's book revealed he had "favorites" and treated the favorites differently.

If an opposing coach can give Trevone Boykin high five during a game, don't you think SD could give his own player a pat on the back or a high five?? Oh, wait Dana Holorsen played football.

I agree with you he's not a good game manager. I disagree with you about his players playing hard for him. The OL play and lack of a Pass rush over the last couple years somewhat proves it.

I do not see championship coaches like Urban Meyer or Bobby Bowden negatively speaking about former players like Dykes/Hoover. Especially when reducing turnovers are ultimately the head coaches' job. His lack of self-aware is a concern. Bowden would have said about CSD and his bad-mouthing Hoover "The foolishness of it all"

You can't build culture and motivate players if you are badgering refs more than you are players.
The book is not closed on the Hoov. Sure a good start but it was North Texas State at home before a sell out crowd and Coach Brown had 70 new players +-. Lets see what happens vs Ohio State, Michigan, and USC. Then we might crown him with the Heisman. His protection was almost perfect. OUT ON A LIMB HERE BUT HE WON'T BEAT GP. Cig has good assistants but they ain't GP.

Again: Money does not equal Talent. Additionally, a guy who is on The Menu (You know, at Chez Portal, where all the Big Programs dine...) may not fit with your program's style, may have benefitted from special circumstances, or be a bad choice due any of a host of other issues. This last weekend showed us a number of high-dollar transfers stinking up the joint, so we're hardly alone in that department...

The point I am driving at is that there are plenty of Off The Menu Specials out there, that with shrewd judgement could be very economical stars given a chance. Just because Dave Campbell or ESPN says they're great doesn't mean they're actually great. Plenty of guys develop quickly and beautifully when given the chance, no matter how lowly regarded they were. Patterson did quite well with diamonds in the rough, as we all know. Cignetti did so at Indiana with a roster full of guys who couldn't get out of their own way just a year before. That backbone won them a MNC recently, pounding mighty tOSU (who outspent them by the GNP of Russia) and Miami (GNP of France) on the way. It can be done. It simply takes shrewd and intelligent leadership.

TCU NIL is in a doom loop because the donors have no faith in the Coaching Staff. Without that faith and trust, the money will not flow. Without that money, the Coaching Staff has no discernable ability to find and develop those "diamonds in the rough" and what money they do have, they piss away on losers. I have no faith whatsoever in Sonny, and have a dim view of his Up and Coming Star considering what we just witnessed in his most recent Up and Coming Star. As long as Sonny continues in his position, with the backing of the University but no support from Boosters or donors, the doom loop will inexorably constrict.

The scary thing is I don't think we bottom out until both Dykes and Buddie are gone.

Buddie is so far over his head it's incomprehensible.

He seems like a nice guy and we really don't know how much authority he has. If he is not capable of being a Big 12 AD, who signed off on his hiring? That would be a bigger problem.

Ill would take LRBWGMFP back in a heartbeat.
I love GP, but I have 3 questions for you:

Who is his OC?

Who is his OL coach?

Who is his GM who leads our recruiting, especially OL & DL?

We took off in 2022 because Sonny hired three new coaches for those roles. Yes, the core of our 2022 team were players GP recruited, but do you really think that Max would have excelled that year if GP had stayed and not changed his coaching staff?

I don’t.

It has nothing to do with GP, but his loyalty to his assistants that drug us down.

I will give Sonny props for changing the coordinators. It worked with AA on defense. Sammis is off to a rough start. We will see if that works out. Our strength on offense is our running game. Our weakness is on the perimeter with young, inexperienced WRs. How will he plan his attack in the future when good teams will do what BB did in the second half of our opener: take away our running game & force us to throw the ball?

It seems ironic that this team under Dykes is a lot like GP’s early successful teams: good D, good ground game & to win close games we would limit mistakes, win the turnover margin & make the winning plays late because we could not win shootouts.

We did not do that in Ireland. We will have to do that to win games this year. Curious to see if Dykes can coach us to success using a formula that is the exact opposite of his Leach roots.

It is great to see GP off to a great start at USC. But remember that he did not hire anyone on the offensive staff or in the recruiting staff. Also, he can focus 100% on coaching. LR will handle the media, the NIL issues & the fundraising/hand shaking with the USC alums.

For those of who dream of a TCU-GP reunion, I have one question: would you welcome back his old coaches like Meach, Hill, Anderson, etc.? We saw how we faded under their watch. Why would we rise again- even if GP rallied all the old money guys to our cause-if he stayed too loyal to his new/old assistants and stuck by them regardless of the results on the field?

I don’t know if Sonny can rally the team and lead us to a big season. I do know that GP’s old staff of Meach, Hill & Anderson would not.

I'm not sure GP wants to be a HC again. He doesn't want any part of those duties now I don't think. Fast forward to the USC vs Indiana game. I would be very surprised to see Cig out scheme him. The game being played at Indiana I don't think will faze him. He's been in too many wars for that to happen.

We all know what he did with 2 and 3 star recruits, Now, he is in the middle of a massive talent upgrade. Riley had the no.1 recruiting class for the last signing date and the squad now has 3, 5* and 42, 4*. He could very well put Riley in the driver's seat for some big wins this season.

Ok I’m gonna ask again because every time someone says Buddie is in over his head I ask for details and specifics but nobody is willing to talk specifics. It can’t be that he extension because the in over his head claims were before that.

I don’t know him nor am I a shill for him but for so many on this board to make the claim there must be specifics.

He said on the College Football Kickoff show that he wanted back into coaching, and he made it sound like he wanted to be a HC but needed to be a DC first.

The entire board has formed a secret pact to never reveal sacred bullet points. Guard the specifics with your life. I mean, how dare you request details. Please. Please. Please. Stop asking for specifics and ruin the magic by asking for evidence.

Good post. I would add it wasn’t just about the offensive coaches. GP was basically doing everything himself by the end because it seemed like he didn’t trust anyone except maybe the safeties coach. He insisted on playing DE’s that weighed about 225 soaking wet. Our defensive ranking that last year was in the 100s. It had completely fallen apart.

A few of the guys on staff were just laughable hires.

So for $10MM more than we spent we could expect a natty? How much did we spend in Football NIL? Did I miss Indiana on that list?
No, definitely can’t promise a NC but for $10M more we should expect better than what we have now, for sure. That much money buys another 4-5 front line players at least, that would make a big difference.

I’m not suggesting anyone pay it, but yeah, if they did we should expect a significantly better team, sure.

USC spends about $35-40M on their roster, you don’t think that makes a huge difference in their chances and ability to have a really good season?
