This is not a Top 25 baseball team....

Need Kolb back. Our initial weekend rotation was strong. Also not sure why Taylor and Bishop aren’t in the three-four holes I am not sure. The bottom half of the batting order is not strong. The team is in a funk. Hopefully they can turn it around.

They aren’t in the 3-4 holes because we have nobody for 2 and lead off has hemorrhages 120 points off his batting average. They started off in the 3-4 holes and then Boyers proved why he’s a bottom 3rd of the order fit.

People who make these sweeping generalizations don’t know baseball and haven’t really been watching. There are definitely things to work on but the OP is jumping off the deep end.

I say it every year and always get downvoted and criticized but the problem is we recruit too many travel ball players.

It only matters where we are at the end of the season. Give it time!
We are ranked #23 in D1 baseball. So we are a top #25 team right now. Whether we will end as one is debatable. Whether we played like one this past week is not debatable. This is a long season and sports are hard.

For much of the year North Carolina looked like a bubble team and I have no doubt their fans were disgruntled and wanted to get rid of their first year coach. Then they made a deep run and I’m sure he’ll get a massive extension. Same with TCU basketball. Half of our fans were ready to fire Dixon 3/4 of the way through the season and then things turned on a dime and we had the most successful season arguably ever with the number of top 25 wins we had and a tourney win.
So the entire "its a long season" mantra isn't really any more knowledgeable about baseball than the OP who thinks we are terrible but should give Loos a pass for a year.

The season is half over right now - and this was by far the easy half. The Kansas series and a few mid weeks against Tarleton and ICW are really our only breaks for the second half. College baseball teams - especially ones that have composed the way Schloss and Loos both build rosters - are pretty much settled into a line up and rotation by now baring injuries.

The fact that we are still up in the air in at key areas like DH and 4th starter (5th with Krob out) at this point isn't a sign we are expecting something to change - it is a sign we missed on those roles.

But we have some hope - but probably not from someone currently struggling to suddenly figure it out - more likely from the moves that will be enabled with a couple of returners from injury. If Krob can come back and be effective, if Perez has truly figured it out from the first pitch, when Petrie gets back to allow Goodloe to DH, if Goodloe can fill the DH spot - those would fill the largest holes and get us back to being an above average B12 team.

If we have a few strugglers figure it out - Cam become the go to reliever, Hill to keep improving, Wright to find the strike zone more than not, Walker to find the bottom of the zone again, some group of Nunez, Bishop, Rodgers and either of our corner outfielders get on track again - that would be the difference between fighting for 5th in the B12 and praying we win the tournament or being the #2 seed at a regional no one wants in their bracket.

Curious as to why you would prefer Goodloe to Brown at the DH spot?

Porter Brown's lack of hitting has caused all sorts of problems with this lineup. We are struggling at DH and our left fielder is an automatic out. Brown could have solved either of those issues.

.184 vs .276

Brown has had his shot multiple times this year and could not grab the brass ring that is still out there as our DH.

Goodloe is out hitting him - even while also navigating playing the hardest position on the field for the first time in his life.

We are know Porter has the talent and maybe he could get hot again like the end of last year - but we don't have the bats in the rest of our line up for him to work in out on weekends. If you can't hit your weight, you can't be the primary DH. Maybe let him DH on mid week until he finds it.

He can't hit when he is not playing.
so far this year, he can't hit when he is playing. And two coaches have determined he isn't fast enough and doesn't have a good enough glove/arm combo to overcome it in LF to be our primary starter.

I would love to have the Porter from the B12 and post season last year in our lineup every day - but it didn't happen in his 38 at bats this year.

The "path" is to get Krob back to good Krob where he's a mid 3.00 ERA, sub 1.40 WHIP guy. Get Brown on track pitching against mid-week teams and hope Ridings can figure out his 2021 form. Need Walker to settle in.

On hitting side you need to get Petrie back (it's been 6.5 weeks now) so that Byrne isn't carrying so much weight. When Petrie starts at catcher, Byrne DH, and when Byrne starts at catcher you probably have Goodloe/Brown DH. But hopefully less weight on Byrne turns him into a strong hitter.

If Krob doesn't come back, not much is going to matter this season.

His numbers are terrible. It's a short season, can't afford 100 ABs to figure it out.
Everyone in LF or DH has terrible #'s. At least Brown has the track record to prove what he is capable of. Having to look over your shoulder after every ab puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on a hitter. Brown needs to be in the lineup every time a right hander takes the mound.
