They don't give out trophies for recruiting

I really think some of you care so much about recruiting because you want to "one up" other schools in the state and get the bragging rights, and can't stand when another rival school beats us out in recruiting. It's like you all think its a game or contest. However they don't hand out trophies for recruiting, so in the end it doesn't really matter.

I understand your overall point, but I'm sure our coaches would also love to win more of these 'final 3' type deals as well. It's frustrating to often be labeled as one of the favorites only to have a kid pick one of our conference mates.

By definition, "final 3" players will disappoint at least 2 very attractive programs.

I'm not saying it's OK to lose, but it's not unexpected to lose some or even most of the time. TCU will get its share, and down the road may be glad that some of these players were misses for us.

Lane Kiffin misses some. Saban misses some. Mack Daddy (particularly this year) and the Stoopses miss some. It's part of the process.

No, but you're the statistician. Tell us how correlated the two are?

By my simple count, 2/3rds of the BCS top 10 each year also has a top 10-15 type class year in and out.
The balance is mainly teams with recruit class ranks 15-25 (ie Stanford, Arkansas, Va Tech, Ok St, Penn St) . Then a small few like BSU, TCU (or Utah/Kansas) who finish outside the top 25 but still manage to break in and crash the elite recruiting party, i mean BCS.

top 10 final BCS from last 6 years:
2012: Notre Dame | Alabama | Florida | Oregon | Kansas State | Stanford | Georgia | LSU | Texas A&M | South Carolina
2011: LSU | Alabama | Oklahoma State | Stanford | Oregon | Arkansas | Boise State | Kansas State | South Carolina | Wisconsin
2010: Auburn | Oregon | TCU | Stanford | Wisconsin | Ohio State | Oklahoma | Arkansas | Michigan State | Boise State
2009: Alabama | Texas | Cincinnati | TCU | Florida | Boise State | Oregon | Ohio State | Georgia Tech | Iowa
2008: Oklahoma | Florida | Texas | Alabama | USC | Utah | Texas Tech | Penn State | Boise State | Ohio State
2007: Ohio State | LSU | Virginia Tech | Oklahoma | Georgia | Missouri | USC | Kansas | West Virginia | Hawaii

I share the sentiment that a top class does not guarantee anything, but it sure helps...

Aggy begs to differ...they have declared themselves recruiting champs for 2013. Expect to see a plaque on the wall next to their South Division co-Championship plaques.

Yep.

The correlation between wins and recruiting is very strong. It's not 100%, but you are in a far better position if you can have top rated guys coming in. If you don't, then you better have a darn good coach, we are lucky we have one of those. But just think what he could do with a top 10 class.

Please name me the last national chorion ship team or even a team that played in the NC game that had a collection of 2 star recruits like Tcu and missed on the recruiting trail on 99% of the 4 star athletes they were after. Name just one! You can't cuz there ain't any!

BAMA? No
Texas? No!
USC? No
Auburn? No
Oregon? No
Florida? No
LSU? No

Fact is no team that recruits a bunch of 2 statsies (and even 3 statsies) has ever even sniffed the NC game!! Nice try trying to alibi a bad class thougjh

I wish we could play for a chorion ship. Or is that the old wooden ship that was used in the civil war era? No, no that is Diversity.

Day drunk must be fun.

Let them have thier "recruiting trophies".............If Gary Patterson cannot build a strong and deep team over the next couple years, then I challenge anyone to tell me who we can actually hire who could do better for "our" school. We are TCU. Not UT or ATM, and we just got back to the big 12. But with a great coach and the best defense in the conference we can change those assumptions that TCU has to recruit to Rivals or Scout.com ratings bullcrap, With just a small amount of increase in "top" rated players recruited and a couple of seasons competing well and winning against the best of the Big 12, that whole picture can be turned upside down. Rome was not built in a day, and Gary Paterson's job is not close to being done yet.

I believe strongly in one thing. If GP thought he had no chance to compete at TCU in the Big 12, he would be gone. And if he goes we are going to have to be very lucky to find someone who can come in and take it to another level anytime soon.

I simply trust in what got us here. Because that trust has been earned, not given blindly.

GO FROGS!.

These kids are going to want to come to TCU in droves down the road. We have done nothing yet in this league yet finished right in the mix of the conference. If/when we muster a 10 winner this thing will shift real fast and it will be a lot of fun.
