They’re one of the most explosive skill units we'll face all year - a very capable group.

That would be nice but even without that we have held other teams enough to win.

Even if we did get a turnover, our offense wont capitalize on it or they may even turn it over themselves.
Scoop and score, pick 6, safety, etc.

Remember how that tOSU game played out? I bet their offense appreciated the help.

consider that a struggling tcu offense had 13 offensive series against texas tech

2 of those 13 started inside tech territory and they resulted in a touchdown and a missed field goal.

5 times tcu started inside their own 20 and 3 of the frogs 7 offensive series in the second half started inside the tcu 20.

tech's winning score was set up after tech flipped the field by driving 40 yards and then pinning the tcu offense inside their 5. a terrible punt then set up tech inside the tcu 40.

starting field position is critical for a struggling offense. the winning drive against iowa state started at the isu 46.

the final drive against tech started at the tcu 2.

some numbers to show you the impact of field position on a bad offense

tcu has had 50 possessions in the last 4 games

6 of those started inside the opponents 50
-2 resulted in touchdowns
-1 resulted in a field goal
-1 resulted in a missed field goal
-1 resulted in tcu punting
-1 was at the end of the isu game when tcu was running out the clock

effectively 5 of those drives had tcu trying to score and resulted in 3 scores and a missed field goal. not great, but far, far better than the other 44 possessions

44 started on the tcu side of the 50
-6 resulted in touchdowns
-3 resulted in field goals
-1 resulted in a missed field goal
-12 drives resulted in turnovers
-20 drives resulted in tcu punting

roughly 20% of the drives started on the tcu side of the 50 in the last 4 games resulted in points

turnovers have killed this offense, but the lack of turnovers and the terrible field position from mistakes in the kicking game and the opponents being better in the kicking game have forced a struggling offense to ice skate uphill

Field position has not been kind to the Frogs all year due in part to lack of turnovers and a little bit of tough luck with punts bouncing nicely for the other team inside our own 10 a few times. The biggest culprit imo has been a special teams unit that is as bad as we've had in a while. Punter has been inconsistent, kickoffs aren't great, coverage units aren't as good as they've been in the past and we haven't gotten many good returns despite having an elite return man.

Our punter is great at pinning a team inside the 10-yard line, but he can't hit the 45-50 yarder when he needs to. Kills us when we're relatively deep in our own territory because we can't flip field position. As for the punt returns, I think we've been way too conservative with the fair catches, especially in light of the offense's struggles and Turpin's ability.

Pretty much how I feel about the cable types when they make a big deal about a coach's canned remarks at a check the box presser..

Turpin’s punt returns are our best chance to score IMO

Even if he said the we sucked and our qb couldn’t throw the Ball through an open barn door, would it even matter? It is not like being pissed off would cure what ails us right now.

I agree that there are probably too many fair catches, in part because of GP's fear of fake punts. There are lots of times we don't even attempt to setup a return because we're in safe. There are other times where they do have a return setup and Turpin mis-reads it and calls for a fair catch. It's a fine line. You don't want him to get destroyed or risk a fumble but as much as we're struggling offensively we need every chance at a big return that we can get.

Our offense certainly hasn't consistently succeeded at getting KT the ball in open field so returns are about the only chance he has to make big plays most games.
