Sure the LL had a right to lease to a new tenant but not if the effort to lease by the LL while the existing tenant had a 30 + year track record of paying on time. The pub tenants et al had a 3 decade + track record of paying on time and given a certain judge, The Current tenants will be given full examination as to why they were not granted the same opportunity to pay what Buffalo Bros was willing to pay. Current tenants were shut out.

Judges who ae favorable to tenants in todays environment may very well give the underdog the chance .There is the possibility that a judge muddles the waters on the right of renewal options.

I don't comprehend how anyone could do beyond 100 retail lease transactions. To coordinate a Lease transaction is the epitome of boring, bland, and dull.
There’s no mudding of the waters. There are either renewal options in the lease or not. Leasing 101

Probably some minor differences between back when and today. In 82, TCU was a much smaller school, but the drinking age was 18. Everyone was at the bar. I saw the same people suffering in class that were in the Hi-Hat, OUI, HOP or The Pub the night before. A smaller family that you may have seen more frequently, as it were.
8 am MWF English Composition was a chore on Friday morning...

Let's be real -REAL. They were raised on phones, laptops and tablets. They do not in this universe understand face to face engagement. The CCP and other asian governments have designed electronic devices to addict people, specifically so Americans don't have conversation. I am proud to say I'm not addicted. My phone stays in my glove box while driving. While at office or home my phone stays at least 5 ft away. My phone is not connected to internet.

Yeah, sure you may say i'm paranoid. Let's remember what one of the leading tech pioneers said about 20 years back, The Paranoid shall survive. Andy Grove while at Intel promoted this.
I remember a grizzled old motorcycle rider telling me, "Look at that traffic, kid. Always remember: You're not paranoid enough!"

Are you a student right now? My grandson thinks there's almost too much social life at tCU right now. Has to work to remember he's a student.
Oh just 20 years or so ago lol.

I didn't mean to say the city of Fort Worth doesn't have social life; I meant the campus itself. Like someone else mentioned, I grew up during a different era and different type of college campus.

I think you've hit upon the key: Whatever the Pub was some 30 years ago it apparently isn't today. Times change. Markets change. Progress devolves into petrifaction. Otherwise I'd still be driving my '55 Super 88.

Adding to that thought I wonder IF the younger newer students even know or knew about The Pub! Makes me wonder. I didn’t know it was still around. If I did I might have gone back and lingered/lurked for a look at a young woman or two. Just saying!

I was an officer at TCU for about 8 years right out of college (thus the name...), and I lived in a little [ Finebaum ]hole garage apt. right behind the 7-11 across Berry. I'd get off shift at 11:30, go home to change, the be at the Pub and Schooners til close. Got really good at pool and drinking...

This is gonna suck.

Drinking age in Texas from 81-86 was 19, but who's counting

I don’t think that’s entirely true. I turned 18 in ‘83 and drank legally for a while. It changed to 19 in 1984, but I remember them exempting people who were close to 19, so it never affected me. Drank legally again for a while until it changed to 21 in mid-1986, and then had a two or three month period where I couldn’t drink legally.

That was crazy because I was legal October of my freshman year. Then the drinking age went to 21. Florida, where I live/d, grandfathered those who were legal, but Texas did not. So, I could no longer frequent establishments or by beer for the first 2 months of my junior year. Legal for 22 months in Texas and then I wasn’t for 2 months. Just weird.

I am saddened to hear these tales of woe about not being able to drink at college.

Guess us "baby boomers" were street-smart enough to obtain and use fake ID's...plus we shared information about which establishments did or did not have strict ID policies (and frequented the latter).

True story: When I retired, I made a trip to Ft Worth for a football game and stopped by King's to buy a case of Texas wine. When I got to the register, I handed the clerk my drivers license. He said, "I don't need to see that, I can see you're clearly old enough."

My response: "I shopped here a lot when I was a student at TCU, and I thought it only right for me to show you a real ID at least one time."

None of the above really matters(Except for Geezers) if you had ordered an ID supposedly State dept. approved out of the back of Rolling Stone classifieds. I walked into a place I recall named Wildcatters in W. Ft Worth with a group of friends and the Door guy said to me "Haayy yuuu fetched that out of the back of the Roheeling Stone" I attempted to stay poker faced and he hee hawed and said "Geet on een there keed and get yurself a Long Island Tea.
