The OL could be gnarly

With the latest pre-August depth chart of June 21st, and if that remains in tact...

Front 5 will have a total of 52 starts
The 2nd 5 will have 25 starts
The most interesting battle may be between Blake Hickey and Wes Harris at RG
Plus some very interesting young Big and Uglies

Wes Harris is our best OL when healthy (rare). There’s no battle there. It’s between Hickey and Lanz

not really worried or interested in depth charts in june, especially with the number of players who sat out the spring

if eze is what he appears he could be at left tackle would like to see coker take the right tackle which frees avilla to play inside.

avilla was the most effective interior lineman for the frogs and agree he has great upside, need lanz and harris to be healthy or hayes push for time

mcmillon is experienced and does some good things, but has struggled at times with a physical player lining up over him at center

would like to see someone emerge as true third tackle so avilla doesn't have to swing outside. will that be coleman, guyton, or someone else

pieces are there and this unit needs to get much more consistent. i do think working to establish an offensive identify will help them and do prefer a more physical blocking scheme over what we have seen at the times

Bad group but it was young…Hasn’t been good in 3 years…Recruiting has been spotty at best but there’s some reasonable good young talent in the building….Austin Meyers, Hollins, QWhite we’re all comically bad and the fact they were even on the field last year at all was a joke. McMillen should be used in emergency situations only. Keys to improvement are as follows
1. Wes Harris health
2. Coker growth
3. Avila staying at Center no matter what
4. Lanz not sucking
5. McMillen not seeing the field
6. BColeman and Guyton being able to step in to OT if needed.
7. Unit has to drastically improve pass blocking and handling stunts

Avila might be our best.
Yes, Avila may be our best, as they've used him at C/Guard/ Tackle positions... our least expendable OL.

Wes, as of this latest update of 6/21, is presently listed behind Hickey... who did well his last/only 3 starts, which were all wins.

two of those last three games were played against a terrible defense in kansas and a below average defense without their best defenders in la tech.

ok state was above average in the defensive front and the frogs struggled running the ball with the backs, 96 of duggan's 104 yards came on 3 carries, and the cowboys did create some pressure and some tfl's with their front

the frogs struggled at times with physical fronts and absolutely must get better in the interior line, agree with froggish that i really want to see avilla stay at center

any depth chart now is basically worthless for a unit that should be subject for open competition for every spot with an entire summer and fall camp to go before the season

The frogs finished 1st in B12 rushing(ypc/ypg)... and the OSU game was our best rushing game against the top 5(excluding frogs) rushing B12 Defenses, which included OU ISU WVU UT and OSU, all Bowl teams.

As mentioned originally.... If this weeks 2 deep update holds up, then we'll have 52 previous starts up front and 25 starts backing them. And if there is movement in August, then we're going to have 77 starts in our 2 deep OL either way.

not sure the point of listing the 5 bowl teams as the frogs didn't run the ball well against al five of those teams and ok state gave up over 4 yards a rush last year so while they had some talent in their front that didn't always translate to production on the field

additionally, you keep talking about the 52 and 77 starts but 25 of those are one guy who hasn't started a game for the frogs yet so there is experience, but this isn't the 2017 line yet

the line can be good, but they need to show it and any talk about a 2 deep in june and whether it holds or not is crazy because line play is something that can be judged in shorts and tshirts which is what they are right now.

footnote: had a chance to do a quick check to compare some numbers that you keep referring to as some measuring stick of experience

the frogs this year return one offensive linemen who has over 10 career starts as a frog and that is coy mcmilon (16). they only have two offensive linemen who in their entire careers as a frog have played in 20+ games and that is mcmilon (35) and avilla (20)

i referenced the 2017 offensive line which i think is easily the best offensive line for the frogs in the last five seasons. here is the breakdown of starts and games played for the starting five:

pryor (18 starts / 32 games played)
schlottman (14 starts / 37 games played)
morris (12 starts / 26 games played)
iwuagwu (32 starts / 38 games played)
noteboom (26 starts / 39 games played)

total combined 102 starts and 172 games played and remember the first offensive linemen off the bench was lucas niang

if you count eze's 25 starts at memphis and 31 games played and add up the totals for the frogs other 14 returning offensive linemen with game experience at tcu the total is 77 games started and 146 games played

i think there is some talent in the offensive line, think they did push around the teams at the end of the year they needed to, and am hopeful the unit comes together in 2021, but they have no real consistent performance at guard, need eze and coker to man the tackles to allow avila at center and after that don't have much experience when you consider ever starter in the 2017 line had at least 1 year of starts and 2 years of game experience
