I'm really confused as to why it's so dangerous to take that balloon out.

Obviously (and you know this better than anyone) you can't fire bullets into the air, but would it really be that difficult to fly a drone directly into it, or right next to it and damage it?

These types of balloons can reach altitudes that make reaching it by drone improbable. However, high altitude missiles can reach it but it's not as simple as popping the balloon. One source I read said the Pentagon are fearful of some countermeasure that might cause more collateral damage (oh no, won't someone think of the moose?) if impacted by a missile.

Honestly, an F-22 with the right ordinance can take this out in a heartbeat. The fact that they haven't is maddening and is one of the most egregious acts (non-act?) of a US President in our life times.
