The Day After....

As are the Stars.
Damn...I feel for all of you. I woke up to 2 degree temperatures this morning and no water...our wells froze. We have electricity, but people all over town are without it. Like most of you, we got about 5 inches of snow here in the Permian Basin. Fortunately, I’ve got a good fire going in the fireplace, and plenty of wood. Hopefully we’ll be past this in a day or two.

Here's the DMNews advice and what to do with no power:
  • Close blinds and curtains to keep in some heat.
  • Close off rooms to avoid losing heat.
  • Stuff towels in cracks under doors.
  • Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing,
Will someone explain to me how wearing layers of loose fitting, lightweight clothing helps when your house is now approaching 52 degrees? What would we do without newspapers to help us?

I think they got that from that ERCOT group...saw it on a tweet associated with them or Oncor earlier.

I don’t know. Here’s some Solomon-like wisdom and analysis from the Hood County News.

growing up east of dallas we lost power for few days back in '79 around new year. only reason i remember the date is that we always got tickets to the cotton bowl and were going to go watch nd with joe montana.

that was the game he left the game, went and warmed up in the locker room, and lead the comeback over the cougs

don't remember the temp in the house but it was cold for 3-4 days i guess. we used the fireplace for heat, cooked on the grill, and sat around playing cards and listening to a transistor radio.

aside from the cold the absolute worst was the dark coming so early in the night. wish the best to all of you in this situation and the sad thing about this being something they could have addressed is the state government will just kick the can down the road a bit further instead of addressing the true needs of the state

Literally everyone we know within a mile and not in our neighborhood has power.
Thankfully one of them took us in for the night.

my pipes haven’t frozen yet but I’m not optimistic they survive a night of 3 degrees and no heat.
Sorry to hear but glad you found some cover.

This thing has been a [ Finebaum ]show. The State Administration was warned abt EXACTLY what would happen...and did nothing.

that sounds eerily familiar to the things friends have told me who were in emergency planning meetings prior to hurricane harvey when harris and houston did nothing because they knew they underprepared and scheissed

why is it those in government whose job it is to protect the population are afraid to both tell the truth and actually do their jobs

Because taxes are socialism.

OUCH!!!
This [ Finebaum ] is spread out everywhere. One friend lives in Deep Ellum hasn't had power all day. They went and got a room for at least tonight. Another friend lives on the edge of Garland by Rowlett and she hasn't had power since around noon while other people have had power all day.

I had a buddy say it’s the “friggin Hunger Games out there“ in regards to who has power and who doesn’t.

I was there too. Came up from Houston and stayed with family friends in Duncanville. Not sure I’ve fully thawed out from that game.
