The Daily Texan: Trevone Boykin has made his case as TCU Horned Frogs starting quarterback

By Sara Beth Purdy

When TCU quarterback Casey Pachall was suspended indefinitely for a DWI arrest, the Horned Frogs turned to the only other player who had lined up under center this season on the roster, redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin.

Before assuming the starting duties, Boykin had played as a backup throwing for 74 yards and a touchdown through three games while racking up 122 yards on the ground. At this point in the season, after six games as the starting quarterback, Boykin has 1,540 yards in the air with 14 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 58.3 completion percentage. In addition, he has two touchdowns on the ground while rushing for 267 yards, the third leading rusher for TCU.

Considering the circumstances, Boykin’s 2-4 record doesn’t accurately show the progress he has made leading the Horned Frogs and the strides he has made towards solidifying his position as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. ...

Hmmmm.... Seems they *may* be giving TB more praise than is due, but I haven't really come to a final conclusion about TB, myself.

- great vs Baylor...He had time to throw. He's really had some good moments passing, but he's also had some very poor ones.
How much of the poorer outings is him/poor pass protection/inability to make proper reads, etc...? I don't know the answer.

- running...again, up and down. He has had some very good moments, but to me, overall, he seems much slower, and not the
weapon on the ground that he was expected to be. He often gets tripped up by players you would think he should be able to
get by. Escapability from sacks is a plus over Pachall.

- being put in positions for success by the coaches. Lots of debate here about that.

Next 2 games will be interesting.

We really dont know how casey would have done against the tougher teams trevone has played.

Sure, I think casey would have made less mistakes and more probably more accurate but i dont think he could have made as much plays or the kind of plays trevone has made.
