The 1st Down Club High School Awards: LT Foundation presented the banquet to honor areas best playe

LaDainian Thomlinson's Touching Lives Foundation presented the banquet last night at the Omni Fort Worth. Awards were given to the best high school players in the area on offense and defense as will as the high school coach of the year. The award winners and finalists in each category were:

Offensive player of the year:

Kenny Hill QB Southlake Carroll High

other finalists: Andrew Billings OT Waco High, Austin Davis OL Mansfield High, Kyle Hicks RB/QB Arlington Martin, Marchie Murdock WR Mansfield Legacy High and Cameron Smith WR Coppell High.

Defensive player of the year:

Chad Whitener LB Mansfield High

other finalists: Sammy Douglas LB Arlington High, Tanner Jacobson DB Southlake Carroll High, Gunner Johnson LB Aledo High, Graysen Schantz LB Lake Dallas High, William Udeh DE Coppell High.

Coach of the year:

Hal Wasson Southlake Carroll High

other finalists: Tim Buchanon Aledo High, Jeff Hulme Mansfield High, Joe McBride Coppell High, Jim Skinner Birdville High, John Walsh Denton Guyer High, Steve Lineweaver Euless Trinity High, Scott Peach Arlington High.

It was a great night and a great 1st event. The West side of the metroplex has needed something like this for a long time. Pretty awesome that LT and his crew fronted the tab to put on the event. Thanks to KF.com for supporting it and all those that came out. Saw lots of former Frogs there. LT, Greg Walls, Russell Gary, Shannon Brazzell, Latarence Dunbar, Charles Jones, HCGMFP, Coach Sharp, Coach Anderson & Scott and Wes too!!

For what it's worth, Sammy Douglas is going to be a special player here for a long time. That kid looks great!!
