That penalty

Explain to me why the NCAA made the motion of getting a first down a personal foul or unsportsmanlike conduct or whatever it is called....Called it against TCU in Ireland (I'm not trying to be a homer here), but this weekend I saw it performed in several games (I surf most of the afternoon games) but the refs never called it....Did I miss a part of the official ruling as adopted in the summer? Do refs have a blank check on whether they want to or don't have to do it?

No throat slash.

I hadn't seen the play since the game broadcast, and that is no "throat slash" as was described in the apologia for the Officials.

That was a huge call at that point in the game. Without that BS call, we are heading down to score and take the lead with momentum on our side. They chose their moment carefully...

I saw it live and the replay on the big screen and there was nothing close to that. Yes it had an impact but most of TCU's problems were definitely self inflicted but we were on the receiving end of a few bad calls. Having said that, it was not the reason we lost and we should have been able to overcome those calls against a team like that. Easily one of the worst games I have sat through in person in 2 plus decades, embarrassing. Sonny screaming at the refs all game long was a bad look..... Onwards and upwards. i know we have beat the sheet out of this subject

This is true. However, calls like that have a monstrously demoralizing effect on a team's performance. Consider: We just converted a long 3rd down, and were looking at 1st down in at least FG range. Payne and the O-line were finally clicking. Morale and confidence were on the upswing. Then, a completely garbage call comes out of the blue, taking that all away, burying us on the other side of the 50 and killing a promising drive. That call had never been made before, and I guarantee that it will never be called again, but there it was. Morale and momentum never recovered. It was a game-turning call.

Certainly the team could have rebounded, but terrible play from our QB and a total lack of execution bled away all momentum and team confidence. Like I noted above, the Game Officials chose their moment well.

What’s crazy is, this only affects teams I root for. For some reason, every team I root against can overcome it.

I think it's pretty obvious that after our game the leagues said something like "ok I know that's supposed to be a new emphasis but come on, not like that". You won't see that called the rest of the year, even for us.
