I know for a fact that Patterson really did think about going to Arky for about a week but he is staying. GP realized that he has had better opportunities and will have better ones in the future. I know that once the guy wins a NC then he will move on.

After the decision not to take the Arky job his said this "The only way I'll leave is if they (TCU) fires me". I was a bit concerned last week but its been confirmed through those close to him and the players also received confirmation from him last week.

He can't leave after 1 NC. He will win back to back NCs if he stays

I've always sort of worried about that, but I convinced myself that if he won a NC here, he'd want to repeat. Also, I figured that I he got to the point of winning a NC, there would be no reason to go somewhere else... I'd be ok if he either went to the NFL or just retires from coaching to take a break. But if he won a NC and then left us for a team like Ohio State, Alabama, or (for god's sake) UT, it would seriously diminish it for me.

This is actually what I was wondering about. The people who have texted me know each other to an extent but are not close. I wonder what the catalyst was for this to all blow up tonight (and within an hour)???? I've asked but haven't gotten a response from anyone yet. I did explain what "proxy" explained to a couple of them and they seemed to think that wives have a lot of power in these decisions. I politely responded that I'm pretty certain that coaches wives' probably have an even greater interest in the temptations associated with Fayetteville due to recent circumstances. That didn't go over very well.

FWIW: I just heard back from one of them who said the likely source of this rumor was some popular sports radio talk show.

Offer to bet them $1K that Patterson won't leave, see what they say

the thing about arky that makes me laugh is that they believe that the only necessary thing to lure a coach is to have the fans want him. seriously. any board, even the ones outside of hogville.. you ask em, why would patterson/petersen/gundy/stoops/schembechler come to arkansas? "well, because we want him, and we're gonna offer him a job."

no kidding on this -- just this morning on their site, there are people who think Urban Meyer, at undefeated Ohio State, is currently mulling an offer from arkansas. they said last night that bob stoops is seriously in the mix.
