Have several professional colleagues who are big contributors to UA and a couple of the same are hog letterman or married to hog letterman. Not sure what just got put in the water in Arkie-land tonight but have had five different people text me in the last 45 minutes about GP and the UA job. Saying that GP tops Jeff Long's list and that he plans to make the next HC the highest paid in NCAA. Usually I'm of the opinion that where there's smoke, there's at least an ember if not a fire. On this, I'm wondering if there's smoke...what might they smoking? In any event, there seems to be heavy sentiment that an announcement will be made inside ten days.

You can never be sure, but I don't see it happening.

that said, I will be grossly depressed if GMFP leaves us for Arky. We won't be ok...

I was worried for a bit, and of course they want CGP. He is incredible, but so does Auburn and Tennessee. I think they will make an offer, but I do believe Coach P knows that next year or the next the Frogs have a legitimate shot at a National Championship.

I'm not worried anymore.

Relax people Gary has a dynasty in the making. It's taken 15 years to get to where he is, and he doesn't want to start over. So many of you people freak out when a coaching job comes up. Calm down and know Patterson will be here a LONG time!!!

Of course he's tops on their list, should be on anyone's. But it takes two to tango, and I think it's all ridiculousness until someone who is locked in with the Patterson clan says something along these lines.

What could Arkansas possibly offer that TCU can't anymore?

BCS conference? TCU
HIgh pay? TCU can match
Facilities? TCU
Texas Recruiting? TCU
Path to National Championship? Both, but better in the Big XII
Can write his own ticket on campus and around town? TCU
Won't be run out of town after a few bad seasons? TCU
An unbelievable AD? TCU
Fan Support? Arkansas... okay you got one thing going for you there, but it'll happen at TCU now that we're rekindling old rivalries.

I'll say it again! He just built a house for his players and now building his own home! He lives by the pyramid and the National Championship is on the top of his personal pyramid! Even with all the loses on the team this year they have a chance to beat Oklahoma this coming week and going to a undisclosed bowl! Next year will be a year he can make it to his National Championship or the year after! TCU will give him a raise to keep him here but I honestly don't think he really cares about that right now! Worse case scenario he becomes the highest paid coach in the NCAA at TCU! Kill the thread!

No coach is infallible or too loyal to not take a huge payday, but these arky fans who think that TCU won't have the money able to match any offer they present are only fooling themselves.

Our $165M stadium was paid for IN CASH with donations from a literal handful of people.

I REALLY can't see him leaving for Arkansas for scads of reasons. Building the new house, wife from here, just built a new stadium here, has a team that will compete for titles for next several years, UA offers absolutely nothing that we don't already have besides a larger alumni base-attendence, he can be who he wants to be here without fear of meddling, he's a living legend, etc, etc

I can only speak for myself but if I had found a place that offers absolute job security, a real chance to compete for the NC, an alumni base that will find a way to give him whatever he wants and that allows me to be myself without concessions, financial security for me and my staff, then I'm not going anywhere. Perhaps five or six years ago I could see it but not now.

One other thought, imagine how much more money we have to play with when it comes to coach's salaries now that we're getting all that sweet sweet BCS/TV money. If Patterson wasn't already one of the highest paid coaches before, with our MWC budget, surely the influx of BIG XII dollars will help push him into that category.

This story is getting old. Arkansas has an inflated opinion of itself. I'm sure they can get a good coach who is looking to move up. I'm not sure why they think they can get a great coach who is already in a better situation than Arkansas can offer. Fayetteville, Arkansas? Good grief!

If you want to go to the most popular arky site, it's called hogville. they have a coaching forum set up. Every few minutes someone with a "source" posts that he knows who the next coach is, and it's almost always someone different. Any coach with a 7-5 record or better this year has been mentioned. They even think they could get pete carroll or bob stoops to switch..

point being this.. nobody there knows.

Probably someone's wishful thinking which they pass off to people as insider knowledge and it goes from there.

This is actually what I was wondering about. The people who have texted me know each other to an extent but are not close. I wonder what the catalyst was for this to all blow up tonight (and within an hour)???? I've asked but haven't gotten a response from anyone yet. I did explain what "proxy" explained to a couple of them and they seemed to think that wives have a lot of power in these decisions. I politely responded that I'm pretty certain that coaches wives' probably have an even greater interest in the temptations associated with Fayetteville due to recent circumstances. That didn't go over very well.

FWIW: I just heard back from one of them who said the likely source of this rumor was some popular sports radio talk show.

And they had Chris Petersen at 10am this morning. Arkie has a very high opinion of their job. In the past 4 days, they have supposedly had Gruden, Strong, GP, Petersen, and Franklin accept the job. They are building a super staff and the world will cower to the mighty hogs!!! Ten they woke up and had Tommy Tuberville
