Temple Daily Telegram: Temple's Allen calls audible, commits to TCU
BY GREG WILLE | TELEGRAM STAFF
When Temple quarterback Zach Allen verbally committed 7½ months ago to play football for Syracuse, the prospect of moving far away from his family and friends wasn’t enough to sway him from attending college in New York.
In the end, however, it was the moves of two men he wanted to play for — Syracuse coach Doug Marrone and offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Nathaniel Hackett — to the NFL’s Buffalo Bills that made Allen reconsider where he wants to spend his next four or five years.
And his new decision means a college destination much closer to Temple, Texas.
Concluding a week he described as “crazy,” Allen on Saturday withdrew his commitment to Syracuse and gave a verbal pledge to Texas Christian in Fort Worth, where the December high school graduate plans to begin attending classes Monday.
