I thought schools had to use part of their TV money for the NIL. Other than that an individual could get other advertising monies as long as they were legit and approved by the NCAA.

While impressive, we might want to see how things play out. I still contend that they'll find a way to "Tech it up".... They for sure have a great shot, but if BYU wins this weekend, and we win, then Tech and all that $ will have the same record as TCU. How does that play with them?

They are past us in basketball (no doubt). I feel like their baseball has retreated and would be considered below us. They have softball and that $1M pitcher. We have the rest of female sports.

So is this a shot in the pan sort of thing or something they can do in the long run? Impressed with how they organized all of this so quickly though. Our last AD really set us behind with our big $ folks.

yep, $49M game tomorrow. If they lose, you'll hear the crying from Lubbock. You'd have thought they might spend some of that on a real QB.

I don't begrudge them at all. Much of the wailing and gnashing seems to come from a place of, "How dare they beat us at our own game? Uppity oil field trash!" Especially the Deep South disphits. Albert Means says hey.

This article reads as if Texas Tech GM, James Blanchard, is the key factor in this, so that the money is not being wasted. He correctly identified talent in the portal for the defense to excel. Does TCU have someone with similar top shelf scouting ability?

This type of [ Finebaum ] is exactly why I don't care one bit about college sports anymore

Ive watched one of our games this year. ONE!

My Fandom has been reduced to just checking the score on my phone after the game is over

Since this is the future of college sports, whichever team has the most billionaires willing to write the highest checks along side a fan base willing to have a high enough grift tolerance to be dupped into parting ways with their own money to fund it, count me out. I'll just watch the NFL and NBA, actual pro sports.

College sports died when it was no longer about programs and culture and players wanting to be there instead of mercenaries playing the Price is Right year round
