It's a sad day when members of an athletic conference have to pay "tribute" to other members for the privilege of playing them. This conference is a pathetic piece of garbage and all of the schools should be massively humiliated for the way they positioned themselves.

This is meaningless whining. These schools which exist in orbit around UT just had an opportunity on the table to screw the Whorns and force them once and forever into a conference they couldn't dictate policy for or monopolize revenue from. They blew it. If TAMU, TTech, OU and others had done what Nebraska did and quit their jobs as UT serfs this wouldn't be happening.

Actions speak louder than words. Apparently UT's filthy lucre speaks even louder than either.

Stuart Mandel of SI:

Unbelievable. The five "leftovers" (KU, KSU, ISU, BU, Mizzou) agreed to sign over their share of CU/NU's buyout money to UT/OU/A&M.

So with the new contract from what I have read states:
Today we are looking at $14M/YR Min. TV Contract in Big12-2 and $0 buyout proceeds.
Estimated 10 Year Gross Value = $140M+++

Basically KU, KSU ISU, Mizzou can leave next week and donot have to pay to leave. Sounds good to me.

Football - Hired Art Briles and signed Robert Griffin. Recruiting has improved immensely and training program is night and day from under previous staffs. It's widely acknowledged that Baylor football is improving, I'm kinda surprised you'd even question it.

no question on bball improving. but come on. we have a right to question baylor football when they haven't had a winning season in the big12 and we regularly beat you guys

so, you are basing "success" on a coach with no conference championships and a single player who gets hurt blowing his nose?

Quit building strawmen. Nobody said anything about success, the talk is regarding improvement, and yes, there is improvement.

I couldn't care less if you agree. I'm not really here to trumpet Baylor, I was mainly talking about Tech.

Just read that the TV deal requires all 10 members to sign and anyone who leaves before that deal is done will be in breech of contract with ESPN.

Stu is wrong on this. The other five teams agreed to concede FUTURE buyout money from the new Big XII conference. The new buyout penalties are said to be $30mil and a portion of annual revenues.

according to every published report, you're wrong

according to espn.

Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, Iowa State and Missouri -- who were in danger of being left homeless if the conference dissolved -- agreed to give up their share in buyout penalties to be paid by Nebraska and Colorado for leaving the league, Beebe said.

Baylor improved from 4-8 (2008) to 4-8 (2009)?

That's not improvement. That's hot air.

Be fair...............for Baylor this is improvement.................they did'nt go from 4-8 (2008) to 3-9(2009). This is the way Baylor measures success......they did not get any worse.

Basketball - It was our second NCAA tournament in three years (the other year we were in the championship game of the NIT) and we went to the Elite Eight. That's not just an appearance.

Andy Katz had us ranked #4 in the nation in his preseason poll and we are bringing in Perry Jones to replace Udoh. We are considered a challenger for the Big XII and National Title in 2010-2011. I believe we were slotted as a 1 or a 2 seed in the first (admittedly very early) bracketology. I'd say we were up there.

Do you have any numbers to back up your statements of "improved immensely" and "night and day", and "widely acknowledged"? And by the way, just because you're surprised I would question Baylor's improvement in football doesn't prove anything.

If you'll recall, in 2005, 2006 and 2007, the bears went 5-6, 4-8 and 3-9. In 2008, RGIII's first season, the bears went 4-8. Last year RGIII was injured. The Bears went 4-8. So the "signing of RGIII" hasn't really done anything. Yet you cite it as proof of improvement. This is why I asked for facts. Because I don't see improvement.

Basketball: The NIT is not comprised of "national leaders". It's comprised of bubble teams that had decent seasons, of Big conference teams with losing records in conference and the like. Not national leaders. Notice too that you failed to make any tourney the year after your trip to the finals of the NIT.

Yes, Baylor had a great year last year. However, it is a FACT that Baylor had the easiest trip to the elite 8 ever. A fact. Regardless of what some pundit thinks 9 months before March madness, I fail to see how you guys are a national leader in basketball after one trip to the dance. Lets get there and do something again before you declare yourself a "leader".

Exactly, so why are they pretending that they bring anything else? They don't. They are lucky they managed to hold onto Leach as long as they did, or they wouldn't be considered Tier 2. You've just made my point.

Sure they do. fans=eyeballs=tv $=$ That is what this is all about. Thank God at Baylor too, since otherwise, Baylor wouldn't be in anything other than the Sunbelt.
