Probably not, but the Big 12's TV numbers might be a song and dance as well.

It's not the conferences that will be shelling out the money, it's TV. All you have to do in this dance is get some TV exec to come up with some estimated revenue.

One can only hope. It's outrageous that the conference would agree to UT getting 2x as much as the rest.

And that escape would be to...the Big 10(+2). Evil genius Delany then packages UT with ND to create the biggest money-making conference in the history of the universe. This was the plan all along. :tongue:

Seriously, though, there should be some conversations going on in the appropriate board rooms about creating some alternatives for the those disenchanted with the Big 12(-2). Like maybe a Pac10-East consisting of AZ/ASU, Utah/CU, OU/OkSt, TCU/TTU. I know, I know...but not any weirder than some of the other stuff being thrown out there.

Beebe has saved himself for now, but I have heard reports that the UT/OU/A&M money, i.e., the $20 million+ is guaranteed, while the rest is split among others. Thus, as noted above, the $17 million is a projection, and could very well be lower, such that the big 3 make 2-3 times that of the other schools. None of this is set in stone though so we'll see how it plays out.

ESPN is the network that blew the PAC 10 thing apart to keep FSN from getting a big contract with a PAC 16. Beebe just said in a presser today that their was no TV deal yet. Still my big question: How does ESPN offer a deal big enough to more than double what the Big 12 was getting with 2 fewer teams, a smaller TV market footprint, and no championship game. This doesn't smell right.

That was a great one. Perhaps the funniest scene was in the break room when Pam was "outing" Michael for what he had done and Black Stanley starts insanely giggling, and it turns out he has saved--for 8 years--the newspaper where Michael was on the front cover for this great act of creating Scott's Tots.

Steel's favorite character on that show has to be Creed. There was an article in Rolling Stone about him recently. He was apparently at one time the guitarist in a pretty major rock group in the 60s-70s; he quit over "creative differences" and had done nothing for, oh, 30 years or so, and then got a bit part on this show (where his character name is his real name). For a while was always in the background making weird faces. Then, they were going to write his character out, so, as an act of desperation, he made up some lines himself and started doing them during one show and they thought he was hilarious so they kept him in and made his character have a bigger role.

Many things don't smell right. Like, if there truly is no TV deal yet, but you have a ten member conference that has gone way out on a public limb based on the assumption that there will be a deal, your negotiating leverage is greatly reduced. The pressure is on to do a deal so you don't look like a bigger idiot than you already are. That's why I don't believe the "consultants" story. That's just a diversion because they don't want people to know how involved ESPN actually was in this fiasco, and neither does ESPN.
