TCU v Utah Game 3

You guys are great fans of Frog's baseball. I enjoy catching up on each game after getting home from the actual game. It is good to know that the fan base is broadening each season.

By the way, it may have been me yelling, "Come on, Blue!" I was p.o.'d when he didn't call a strike three in the fourth inning. Schloss and Whiting were quite verbal, too. Someone in our dugout was really getting under the umpire's skin, and was warned twice.

The strike zone was pretty strange, as it was 4-5 inches wider than the plate on both sides (Steven liked that), but was a couple of inches above the knees to just above the belt (no pitcher likes that). Pretty consistent both ways, allowing their left-hander (Card) to hit a lot of outside "corners". That made Coats struggle, because he started swinging at pitches he couldn't reach. The Grand Slam was a nice payback, however.

Frog13 how crazy was that outfield wall in person?

It was a strange-looking place. The stadium is only 13 years old, but looks 50 years old, partly because the fence looks like it was put together one layer at a time over that 50 year period. The buildings in right field made the fence bend in at strange angles. I'd have just painted the yellow line on the buildings and stayed away from the chain link/poster/banner fence. By the way, there was no admission to enter the game, so 200 people showed up Sunday. Friday and Saturday had fewer.

I think the fence was about 25 feet high in several places. With the jet stream going out to right field, a pop fly was a home run. Jason Coat's Grand Slam would have been an out in most places, and Cron's HR off of Merck was a pop fly in every park but Ogden.

Strange grass, too. Fescue, maybe. Long, soft and wet.

We hit 9 HR's in three games, after Utah had given up 17 in 39 games coming into the series. I think our kids did well considering Friday and Saturday's weather. Sunday was decent, other than the wind out to right.
