TCU v. The Rest of the NCAA - Press holds TCU to a different standard?

Reading the Big Mac blog and then searching for the ut sexual assault charges made me wonder.

Obviously, Big Mac, DMN, even our own FWST seem to treat TCU differently than ut, ATM, etc.

As a TCU supporter, do I expect my Frogs to be held to a higher standard?

I do.

While I cringe every time I get a text or cell call saying "Did you hear the news?", my pride in being part of TCU is undaunted.

Maybe because I know that the TCU Nation cares about our own, our students, our faculty, our campus, and our image more than most schools.

So ut has two football players charged with sexual assualt.

So Johnny football is receiving treatment reserved for a visiting European prince.

I'm proud of our school for graduating players, being nationally ranked academically, having players stay their 5th year and get Masters degrees, not tollerating drugs on campus, setting millions of dollars aside for scholarships, building a campus that is second to none, using tough love for those who need treatment, and for all of my fellow Frogs who expect to do it better and more honestly than the other schools.

That is the Frog standard.

TCU will not be defined by the front page of the Dallas Morning News.

Whatever the headline reads.

Go Frogs!!!!!

The UTx players sent home from the Alamo Bowl were pretty thoroughly dragged through the mud by the American-Statesman even though no criminal charges had been filed. The 1 Austin TV sportscast that I bothered to watch at the time ran the "sexual assault" part of the story as the leader, even though the S.A. cops had not yet bothered to attempt to interview either player.

If either player leaves school, or if the S.A. cops decide the possible sexual assault complaint is credible enough for a police investigation, I suspect that will be front page here in Austin.

I think we're more sensitive to, and less likely to agree with any criticism of TCU, therefore we believe people are out to get us.

Was I supposed to type something here?
While Mrs. Brewingfrog and I were driving to Fort Worth for Homecoming, we had the radio on ESPN (avoiding commercials on another station) and were serenaded by the execrable Trevor Mattich regaling his national audience about the "drug trafficing going on among members of the TCU Football team..." Note that this was in October, and the incidents (and stupid press conference) were in February, I'd say that there are a significant number of Sports Media figures who hate TCU and will rip into us any time they can.

Oh, and a Sports Media figure of any kind extolling our academic virtues? I don't think that there was any mention of the number of Masters Degrees earned by the Rose Bowl seniors, save for a story in the FWST. ESPN is too busy pimping the illiterate likes of Florida St. or the fine scholars at THE Ohio State ("...we ain't come to play SCHOOL!") to give credit to a University that is doing the right thing. Might make those other outfits look bad...

Cowherd saying he "would rather give Rosie O'Donnell a sponge bath than watch TCU in the MNC" is the quote that will always frustrate me the most.

I know he's Mr. Big Market but that is the one that hacked me off the most....

While I agree about TCU getting a double standard. I wouldn't read too much into Johnny Manziel's attendance at sporting events. I think someone in his family has a good bit of $.

It starts and ends with our name folks---TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERISITY

The media wants and looks for angles and there is nothing more juicy and fun than the angle of good Christians gone bad. They love, love, love to point out the hypocrisy, etc that our name affords those lazy media types to create their story agenda.

Nice post, Froglaw.

Lots of folks on here complain that TCU isn't like some other school - be it policies, game day activities, attendance, parking, seat cushions, seating, campus cops, etc.

There is always an alternative.

There is no doubt the media is holding TCU to a different standard. I think it is more than just Christian being in the name. When the national article post Rose Bowl win came out about Top 25 teams and arrests, TCU was the cleanest of the article's 4 year probe. I think from that day, the media is held to that near impossible standard.

Flip side: The TCU QB screwing up is just as big news as Dallas Cowboys QB goofing up. That is proof TCU is now on the big stage.

Wow... I know that's part of his schtick... but damn, that's rough. Was that the Rose Bowl season when he spat that out?

Did you consider that Cowherd may have been asserting that there are very few events more desirable for him than watching TCU in the MNC? To each his own...

I would probably pay to watch Cowherd give a sponge bath to Rosie. Don't know. Morbid curiosity, I guess.

Yep, that was before the BCS selections the season we won the Rose Bowl. I could see him enjoying his time with her. He loves big teams and markets and I think she qualifies as big.....Then again he also said he would rather spend Christmas in Hawaii alone than with his children and family opening gifts because they are annoying... He's a classy individual. Pisses me off to no end.
