If A&M isnt going to the SEC... and the SEC wants a foot hold in Texas... why not TCU?

Because beating New Mexico in football is not an impressive resume...

I have actually wonder this many times. DFW is the second biggest metropolitan area for SEC alumni next to Atlanta, so TCU would be a very attractive option for SEC.

However, I would lean toward Bama, Florida, and LSU not wanting to add a team consistently good enough every year to be a thorn in their side. Also, while we would get a fatter paycheck every year, our record would not be as good as in the MWC. Our typical 10-2/11-1 season in MWC would be more like 9-3 in SEC, at least for a few years.

Anything is possible, but I think we are as invested in the MWC future as the rest are, and hopefully the same goes for the Utes!

And beating Wyoming is? TCU can do that too.

The problem with that line of thinking is that we don't hold very much of the DFW market.

While TCU's on the field performance warrants at least a discussion of this issue, the only way the SEC would look at this seriously is if their desire to open the Texas recruiting market made this interesting.

While its a long-shot, if I were your AD, I'd take a shot at it - probably would come to nothing, but what have you lost? If it started some positive conversation, you just might have come up huge!

That is the big point. Plus a rival for the Piggies that they do not currently have.

It could work, and, I approve this acquisition.

People need to quit talking about TCU not delivering the DFW market. With a visiting team fan base that actually travels and "skin" in a game that matters on a national scale, people will and do tune in or fill the stadium. That's the magic combo. The ability for Alabama or LSU to play every year in DFW, open recruiting, alumni gifting etc it becomes feasible and lucrative.
Having said this, I think it makes more sense for the MWC to target Houston, Memphis and Tulane to bring in new growing TV markets. They don't have great football teams, but the challenge for us is looking at TV markets that are drivable so we can develop a family fan base that will travel. I love Boise State in the MWC, but it will be hard for us and then to go to each other's games and go to Provo or Wyoming in the same season. New Orleans, Houston or Memphis are doable.

Agree. SEC is strong enough to deliver the DFW market on their own. They just need a distribution channel in the right location. Certainly not Lubbock. Jerry Jones is an SEC guy and he would be a key to getting something like that done.
