After years of uneven expectations, the Horned Frogs enter 2026 with urgency, belief, and the sense that every game matters again.

A little over four years ago, the TCU Horned Frogs poached Sonny Dykes from one of their fiercest rivals in SMU. Dykes immediately made good on his promise to make TCU Dallas/Fort Worth’s premier college football program as he led the Frogs to the national championship game. It appeared that the 2022 campaign was just the beginning of a burgeoning dynasty in Fort Worth, one that would last for a long time.

And then the 2023 season happened and pretty much any hope of such a dynasty was sent to the landfill.

“So, make no mistake: this is Sonny Dykes’ football team. Completely and totally. The roster construction, the philosophy, the style — all of it reflects exactly what he believes modern college football should look like.

Whether that’s a good thing remains to be seen.”

So is “Completely and totally.” a sentence? Typical point out a few good differences in the team then end it with a car crash ending. Typical junk reporting just to create a story. I agree - reads like AI. Write me a 1 page story on TCU Football and expectations for Coach Dykes.

Yeah the overuse of em dashes together with "BYU Cougars Football and Utah Utes Football" is a dead give away.

Suddenly? After making the national championship game, we proceeded to not make a bowl and went 8-4 twice, not sniffing a chance at a conference title either year. Yeah I’d say the pressure is/should be on, but our genius leadership gave the guy who should be under pressure a raise and extension mid-contract…

Was I supposed to type something here?
We can complain all day long about coaching and TCU's commitment but the game has changed dramatically. It's all about NIL now. Those spending like drunken sailors are going to usually win the most games.
If one thinks about it, not much has changed. Yes, NIL is involved, but the proper evaluation of talent, efficient utilization of that talent, and game planning to allow that talent to shine it's brightest are all still the key factors to winning. You can spend a mint on 5* guys and still not get a whit of production out of them (See: Quinn Ewers and THE Ohio State) (Also See: Zach Evans and Ole Miss). Like the Old Coach said of recruiting back in the day, "It ain't the ones you missed that kills you, it's the ones you got that don't work out that kills you."
