TCU on SI: TCU's Star Running Back was Noticeably Absent in the Win over West Virginia

I would imagine that all those teams have offensive lines that grade out way better than ours. I don't think the Briles doesn't want to run the ball, but I do think that he feels like he has to throw the ball, because we just don't have a great o-line. These teams you listed are also undefeated. Teams that play ahead run the ball more. It may be that teams that win run the ball more, but not necessarily teams that run the ball more win more.
Wisconsin runs it all the time and they suck.

Look at Briles history. Anyone who says he is pass happy or doesn’t want to run the ball is an idiot. But he’s not going to do stuff that doesn’t work, we need to score to win.

Correlation vs causation!

197 versus 274 to a 2-6 season...

I agree he wants to run, but I also believe he is not committed or gives up way too easy.

I believe this is Briles’ 3rd year, why hasn’t he signed a pair of stud 5‘-9” 205 lb RBs in the portal???
In ‘24 he said we were good at RB with Trey Sanders, Battle, and a bunch of freshmen, so we didn’t go to the portal until it was too late. We ended up with a burn out, Dominique Johnson.
In ‘25 Briles signs Barnes, who was injured for 2 years at UTSA…and he’s always injured. Barnes Is a “Prototype“ Briles back, but he isn’t healthy.
When do we get some REAL RBs?? How many years does it take?

When Briles was in his prime in 2015, he had Shock Linwood and Johnny Jefferson, a pair of 5‘-9” 205 lb bruisers that could pound the rock all day long. He also had a full blown RPO QB in Seth Russell. In 2015 Briles was able to run the ball 64% of the time for 4,000+ yds

Why has Briles settled for a pocket passer like Hoover, and RBs that are clearly deficient??? It has destroyed the rushing portion of our offense.

I know the OL is a question, but when Barnes is healthy, like at KSU, he has no problem pounding the rock and getting his yards.

I really don't think that we haven't had RB talent. Who is leading the nation right now in yards? I think it is definitely the o-line. You maybe right that he hasn't run as much as he should, but I also tend to believe that game situations (down, distance, score, etc.) dictate when you run and when you don't. For instance, running a delayed handoff on 3rd and forever may pad the stats, but you still have to punt on 4th down.

We definitely have several big flaws:
- An OL that pass blocks better than it run blocks. Maybe we have some young guys beginning to step up. Not sure.
- Not enough big bruising backs. Maybe Denman and Palmer can be that in a year or two, but we need a good solid healthy portal RB.
- A pocket passer like Hoover is highly limiting to our run game making it very predictable.

Until TCU can groom a starting line that can open holes & create running lanes, with some bruising low center of gravity RBs, and an elusive RPO QB, this will never be anywhere close to a real Kendall Briles style offense.

Good point on the QB. I love Hoover, but he's not exactly what Briles wants to run his system.

LOL.

You're the one who posted "forget the OC. He’s pass happy and always will be. Daddy taught him well." If you think Art and Kendal are "pass happy", that shows how uninformed and ignorant you are. Just off the charts, head in the sand, not having a clue about what you're talking about stupidity. Good for you.

Frog 82 emphasizes that Briles passes more than he should when he should run! I agreed with him exactly what you quoted me as saying. I think you’re ignorant because you confuse yourself. You don’t know who your supposed to disagree with!
You post so much your confused!

Briles likes to get cutesy and try to show off when the situation calls for straight forward sound situational football. Also when you are running the ball well don't abandon it. Pound it (Baylor joke setup).
I just rewatched the ASU game. There was probably only one drive in the second half that we could have run the ball but didn't. Of course, the sack fumble and the INT didn't help. Overall, that game he wasn't that cutesy. There was one play where he had a crazy formation and the had a pop pass for Everheart that went for about 8-yards and believe it or not, there were no attempted screen passes in the game.

Here's the cutesy play...

He’s one of those people who tries to prove he’s the smartest guy in the room over and over again

Badgers suck at third down defense.

The sod rule that has always proven itself. Can you run the ball well and can you get stops on 3rd down well.

Execution ... reminds of when terrible Tampa Bay coach John Robinson McKay was asked post-game about his team's execution and he said he was all for it.

Edited: Thanks for the correction Brewing.

UTSA ran a flea flicker last night, one of those where you hand off to RB who hands off to a WR who flips it back to the QB. QB ends up throwing a pass in the flat to the RB I believe, who navigates through a little blocking and gains about 25 yards. And it wasn't like UTSA was having trouble moving the ball on regular plays, they had been moving it well all night.

Got me thinking, good god if KB ever called that play and someone missed a block or something? Can't imagine all the complaining about what an idiot he is, and how much he loves cutesy plays. Maybe UTSA's OC is an idiot too but I didn't hear anyone making those kind of comments last night as they scored 48 against Tulane. He probably improved his prospects for getting a better job. Sometimes plays work, sometimes they don't. If you go into a game looking for ways to complain about play calls, you'll always have some material to work with.

Was I supposed to type something here?

John McKay.

Reporter: "Coach, can you comment about the execution of your Offense?"
McKay: "I'm in favor of it."
