TCU Lands Luke Bamgboye and Finally Addresses a Major Weakness

Aiden Reed

A major defensive piece arrives in Fort Worth, bringing rim protection TCU lacked last season.

TCU men's basketball has landed one of the transfer portal's most impactful defensive players, securing a commitment from Texas Tech forward/center Luke Bamgboye, via Instagram

The 6-foot-11 sophomore from London, England, entered the portal on April 16 after a down season in Lubbock. Multiple injuries limited Bamgboye to just 21 games, where he averaged 4.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. But he simply wasn't healthy enough to show what he's capable of, but scouts and coaches around the country who watched him at VCU know exactly what kind of player he can be when his body allows it.

Coming from London, I don’t know that he will feel much difference between Lubbock and Fort Worth - both Texas cities on Texas plains known for oil and cattle.
Are you serious? FW is a mecca compared to that [ Finebaum ]hole Lubbock. FW feels like a small town in a metro city. Lubbock is a [ Finebaum ] rolling through the west plains.

I lived in Fort Worth in the 80’s and felt that fine smaller city with the welcoming southern charm of Texans and Texas. Fort Worth was then about 400,000 people but now it is over 1 million so it has likely lost some of that native charm I enjoyed about it then. I suspect Lubbock today with 280,000 people has a lot of what I liked about Fort Worth in the 80’s. And, my experience is that native Texans from my generation who grew up in Fort Worth really like the people in the cities of West Texas.

Now tell me what you mean by ”mecca.” What does Fort Worth have that Lubbock does not? I focused on the warmth and charm of smaller city Texas and its fine native people, and I don’t know that Fort Worth has as much anymore.

Everyplace has weather events and I am sorry STD’s have apparently been your experience in Lubbock - be more careful; they are everywhere.
The last time I drove through Lubbock was over 20 years ago when I moved to Wyoming, but it was flat, dusty, the wind was blowing over 50 mph and it was hot as hell.

I got accepted to Tech and enjoyed my visit there........and then the wind started blowing sand every where. I spent the entire weekend picking sand out of my contacts. I went to FW two weeks later and fell in love with it. There is nothing in Lubbock as cool as Cowtown, downtown or even Berry Street. The TCU campus was beautiful and I knew it was home.

All Lubbock has are gas stations., flatness and strong winds that blow sand everywhere. Can't believe you are trying to win an argument where you say Lubbock is nicer than FW. Good Lord.

"likely lost some of that charm." Sounds like you're just speculating...but I'll give my quick take. Fort Worth really hasn't changed as much as an Austin or Houston, other than it has better restaurants, and a few shady neighborhoods were rebuilt to now be desirable neighborhoods. To "grow", it built major roadways and infrastructure to the southwest (Chisolm Trail) and North (Alliance Airport). Building out, the areas that previously sat empty, but were in the city limits, (but not really part of the charming city you remember), which allowed for the city to double in size. If you are inside the charming part of the city that has mostly remained the same, and you don't have to venture out as much to the ridiculous traffic that exists throughout the metroplex, I'd say you're insulated from the megacity that like most major cities, has traffic issues and isn't as appealing. Not many get to experience that, probably about the same 400,000 you remember. And yes, that blows living in desert west Texas stink town every day of the week. Now, if you want to compare living in Keller or some other mid-cities spot to Lubbock, I'm open to listen.

Been to Lubbock once. Confirmed what every Frog Fan has told me about their games. They are the worst behaved fan base I have personally experienced.

Was I supposed to type something here?

Might I add another of the semi-unique charms that Lubbock has? When the wind blows from certain directions, the stench of the massive feedlots outside of town waft over the City. Richly feculent odors assault the senses, and the ammonia stings the eyes.

Charming...

I grew up in the panhandle so my perspective is different. I like the weather up north better because it is less humid. People are friendlier. I like Fort Worth because there is so much to do and some trees at least. Personally I would rather be in Fort Worth but I’ll take Lubbock or anywhere in the panhandle over dellas.
