As the Big 12 Conference slate hits the midway point, it’s time to recognize some TCU Women’s basketball players who have helped the team post an 8-1 conference record. The Horned Frogs are currently in position to defend their conference title and reach the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.

Most Improved Player: Clara Silva

Clara Silva has emerged as one of the better centers in the Big 12 Conference. Through nine conference games, the 6-7 sophomore from Portugal ranks seventh in rebounds per game (8.4) and first in blocked shots and blocks per game (21, 2.3). She has also logged three double-doubles and averages 11 points per game on 63.8% shooting (3rd Big 12).

IMO - Silva needs to go stronger to the rim, not just layup off the glass. She needs to draw attention from a defensive helper and then throw that pass to an open shooter who's waiting for it. Need to improve her part of the pick and roll. Needs to cut down on moving picks, shuffling her feet as she sets up a screen.

Gotta say I'm totally surprised by Sheffey. Thought she was taking valuable minutes from others during non conference games. But- WOW ! She really brings it on defense and makes critical baskets in the perfect moments.

Personally, I wish Basham would step into an "enforcer" type role on defense. Stay close to the basket/rim. Arms up when someone is driving the lane. Change those drives, alter shots, block shots, and mostly - get those rebounds and hold on to them. Quick outlet passes would help as well. I just don't get the feeling that she's seeing the whole floor, perhaps lacks awareness of where her teammates are in transition.

Missing Scherr. But really missing Roberson !

D. Hunter is a gem, isn't she ?!
