Following Saturday’s win over West Virginia, TCU quarterback Josh Hoover spoke to the media and shared what was a very clear message: “We have to win out.”

Hoover completed 24 of 39 for 247 yards and a touchdown. His favorite target against the Mountaineers was none other than Eric McAlister, who hauled in nine catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. It was a four-yard score that gave the Horned Frogs a 17-7 lead in the second quarter.

While the Frogs pulled out a gritty, hard-fought win in a hostile Morgantown environment, TCU left valuable points on the field. The Frogs were held scoreless through their opening two possessions in the second half after being forced to punt and failing on a 4th and 2 at the West Virginia 30.

A lot of talking from Sonny and Hoover. Let’s see if they can match the talk with on the field performance. Sonny looks a little silly after getting snarky with reporters after the Baylor game and almost dropping one against the 15th placed team in the conference.

Sonny's just protecting his team and what he hears / sees - internally and externally. I don't blame him for that. GP was the king of snarky back in the day in press conferences... I'm more interested in how he gets his team more disciplined and put teams away vs letting them hang around.

One thing I wish Hoover would do is pump fake one direction and throw another. Sometimes to me he zeroes in on one receiver and is going to throw to that guy no matter if he has triple coverage or what. He can throw through a brick wall, but that is one area I think he could work on.
He did that the first few games. I posted how much I liked his decisive play. But the last few games he has been a lot more hesitant. No pump fakes, just stutter stepping. I noticed once close to WVU's goal line he hesitated...something he just didn't do the first three games.

So, have things been playing with his mind, or has he some nagging injuries we don't know about?

He's not very good when a play breaks down. Never has been. Some QBs when they start extending a play you're hopeful and confident something good will happen, Hoover is kind of the opposite, you just hope it isn't a turnover.

I know I've been an "apologist" you might say for Briles, but when you're calling plays for a team that isn't very good at running the ball out of power sets, you've got a turnover prone QB, and you know you've got to score on a lot of possessions because the D isn't very good, it can't be easy.

I think it's because he's trying to not commit a turnover ... The beauty of Hoover (especially early in the season) is that he just let it rip -come heck or high water - and it turned out well... Except when it didn't. Lol.... He might be trying to limit that gunslinger mentality now.. Not sure really. And I'm not sure which one we'll need more in these last 4 games ... Gotta score a lot of points / let it rip guy... Or think about it / be safe guy.

Who knows?

This.

He showed confidence in that first game, and the ability to look off defenders and draw the coverage away from his target before making the throw. Since that time, he has had the burden of self-doubt come creeping slowly in and this is affecting his decision-making and decisive nature. This indecision has also affected the sleight-of-hand that helps draw defenses away from the throw, reducing it to almost nothing as he stares down his target practically from the snap.

I do honestly wish that somebody would show him some YouTube highlights of Andre Ware in that magical year, He had an ability to look off defenders that was unmatched, and just looking at such film would help Hoov quite a bit. Because it's for damned sure that his QB Coach (Gee! I wonder who that is?) isn't doing him much good...

Many successful coaching staffs make it a priority to have a former QB on the staff to remind & entrench the starter to form specific habits. For instance, When you are faking a handoff, rub your shoulder against the RB. When you pump fake, be certain and absolute consistent about the timing. Brock Purdy earned at least 30-40 million because he could effectively pump fake.

He was hurt after that hit he took imo. Dykes should have had him checked out and put in Seals for a series to make sure he was 100%. No proof on my part, but it for sure was his worst game of the season.

I wish they could blow a buzzer in his helmet at 5 seconds, does it over and over and over.

By now Hoover has got to be aware when he needs to get rid of the ball. I get it early in his career but he has played enough by now to recognize when he better make a decision, any decision. Oh except for a delayed bubble screen. Those don't work.

Hoover is not close physique wise to LaNorris Sellers at S Carolina, Austin Simmons @ Ole Miss, or Brendan Sorsby at Cincinnati. All of these guys have been knocked out for considerable time this season.

I can assure all of you Iowa State is plotting to knock out Hoover early this Saturday. That is the way they work.
