Is There an Internal Answer to TCU Football’s Woes?

The Frogs have a problem, and it needs to be fixed immediately.

There is no doubt that TCU is a talented team, but finding success on the gridiron has been hard to come by consistently. From ball security and running woes to discipline penalties and special teams inefficiency, TCU has not been fundamentally sound in any of the three phases of the game.

Two weeks ago, after a tight win in Morgantown against West Virginia, the feeling inside the TCU locker room was optimistic. It was the idea of playing meaningful football in November, and while the schedule proved difficult on paper, the Frogs controlled their own destiny. But after a disappointing performance against Iowa State, the Frogs' ceiling for the season might just be as high as a mid-tier bowl game.

From the article: With three games remaining in the regular season, one thing is clear–everyone is playing and coaching for their jobs.

So if we go oh-fer or 1-2 before the Craptastic Bowl, we're gonna buy out Sonny's next three (!) years? I still say that money is better spent on the roster, especially OL. Plus we'll need a new crop of receivers. Don't see how we can both buy a roster and buyout Sonny.

we are better off on roster money than a lot of folks realize.

How about TCU drops out of the Big 12 and joins the Sun Belt? Save some $$$. Win that conf. every year and be the highest ranked G5 team and get into the playoffs. Back door approach, but hey, if we can't compete with P4, why not?

"Unable to run the football efficiently, the Frogs' offense becomes one-dimensional and severely dependent on Josh Hoover and the passing game."

we got mike leach jr. but with less points and boring pressers.
This ^^. We are the new Tech. 8-4 with certain losses to bad teams every year, and low chance of beating top teams. Watching the OC and DC have repeat play calls every week in the important downs, it becomes so predictable, that good coaches are eating them alive.

I can't say it enough, but Avalos being in last place in the conference on third down because of his soft zone on 3rd and 10 is just as bad as Briles slow spread option play where the QB has no threat of running the option.

on the radio coverage, Brian and the crew were shocked at the refusal to bring a man over the top.

It's just crazy to watch the same defense in the same scenario that he has been doing all year long. At what point do you get frustrated with yourself for failing in 3rd and long? When do you try something different?

Briles has the same problem with the slow spread option play. He did seem to get away from it at halftime...but did he really need a phone call with dad to see the light? It was just so painfully obvious before throwing away 5+ plays/drives over lack of seeing the obvious.

Further, it was predictable because anyone who has watched Campbell's defense for the past 10 years knows his defense looks like a 3-4 and always has a contain man that can come in an slice you for a loss on slow developing plays to the outside.

Dykes should have been able to coach them on these things during the week...if he was a coach.

What good is it to spend money on better players if our coaches can't get the job done?
