TCU's biggest breakout players in 2026 may not be the stars everyone is talking about. These three Horned Frogs could quietly become the difference between a good season and a championship contender.

TCU, led by Max Duggan in the 22-23 football season got a taste of what no other Big 12 team has gotten, a playoff win and a championship appearance. That TCU team was a mix of transfers to longtime frogs along with younger freshmen; they all had to make a difference for that run to even happen. TCU seemed to be one of the first to take advantage of the portal, bringing in older players. Guys like Alan Ali, Mark Perry, and Josh Newton were experienced players who came in and immediately made an impact.

Yeah I'd say Carroll plus Short (I guess) at the other LB spot (and a solid backup or two) (Teason?) are the keys as to whether we have good defense and a good season.

Right now Teason is likely a slight favorite over Michael Short at the SAM spot. I’m sure they will both play a lot, but Teason has the most experience and received the majority of 1st team reps in the spring.
Teason was a FCS Freshman All-America second-team selection by Phil Steele ... tied for 3rd on squad with 51 total tackles in addition to 22 solos, 7.0 tackles for loss, a sack and a pair of fumble recoveries.
Last year as a Soph. he played in every regular season game during his first season at TCU, so he already has the advantage of a year learning Avalos’ system. This year he has been reported to have grown to 6’-3 225 Lbs.
