The Gators are the defending national champion and were the unanimous selection as the ITA's preseason #1 team this season. They are also the (nearly) unanimous selection as the SEC favorite (with #3 Tennessee, our next opponent, a distant second). Based on a dominant fall season, they have 5 ranked singles players and 4 ranked doubles teams, including #2 Ben Shelton (the coach's son), #61 Mattias Simar, #79 Nate Bonetto, #107 Andy Andrade and #111 Josh Goodger. Not to mention the defending singles NCAA champ Sam Riffice, who isn't ranked merely because he mostly played pro tourneys in the fall, but who I'm pretty sure is returning. They had 68 singles W's and 23 doubles W's this fall, which is amazing because there really aren't that many opportunities to play in the fall purely at the college level. They walloped us 7-0 last year in Gainesville and it wasn't that close (and we were a NCAA quarterfinalist). Needless to say, they are really really good. We're 3-4 against them all-time. This will be their season opener - they'll be playing Texas on Sunday in Austin. Getting a tune-up against UTRGV was a good idea, so maybe that'll give us an edge (in addition to playing at home). But we're COVID-depleted and only had 5 players yesterday. Confidence is low. But if you want to see good college tennis, it's tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. at the tennis center (indoors). They're going to take one court out and allow fans to spread out at court level to watch. They'll be free food (as always).

[QUOTE="Jared7, post: 3120231, member: 7831"] The gofrogs preview article for #1 Florida is not up as yet, but we might as well begin looking forward to tomorrow's (not Saturday as I think I said above) huge match.
