This is Cam's 9th quarter-final of the year; he beat Shapovalov the only time they've ever played (on grass) earlier this year; he's at his CH of 28th in the world. The match has just started - live on the Tennis Channel.

Cam takes the first set 6-3 with 2 late breaks!

Norrie wins easily 3 and 1. Cam played well, but it was really Shapo going walkabout that decided it so quickly. At times, he just sat down on the court. It was 2-3 early in the 1st set and then Cam reeled off 10 of the next 11 games, with Shapovalov clearly giving up at the end; very frustrated. Cam seems to be the less talented, but he is just so more consistent and Shapo couldn't handle another lefty. It'll either be Rublev or Schwartzman in the semis.

Classic Shapo. Dude should be the next #1, but he just doesn't have the mental strength to change his game. He thinks he's a 6'11" serve-bot who needs to end every point in three shots instead of a shorter guy with tremendous power.

It won't make up for the loss to UT, but Cam Norrie just got perhaps his biggest ever W on the pro tour by upsetting Andrey Rublev 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in San Diego to advance to the final tomorrow (opponent TBD). Rublev was the top seed and is ranked #5 - Cam had earlier this year beaten Dominic Thiem, who was then #4, but Rublev has been hotter and was dominating this tourney up til today. Like yesterday, against Shapo, Rublev started out in control, but Cam turned it around and frustrated Rublev throughout the 2nd and 3rd sets. This is a fantastic W for Cam!

Norrie's opponent tonight (6:00 p.m.) in San Diego will be Casper Ruud, who survived a high quality 3-setter against Grigor Dimitrov in the other semi-final. Ruud has been hotter than Cam this year, mostly on clay, winning multiple tourneys and rising all the way to #10 in the ATP rankings. So he's the highest rated Norwegian on tour, he's only 22 years old and he'll be yet another Top 10 opponent for Norrie. Unfortunately, unlike Shapo and Rublev, he's mostly unflappable and will be far less likely to get frustrated in the way Cam has been doing to his opponents of late. Instead, more like Schwartzman, he just keeps coming at you. This will therefore be a tougher match for Norrie than Dimitrov would have been. This is Norrie's 5th ATP final of the year; he probably won't be favored.

Norrie got smoked in the finals... 6-0 6-2. He looked out of sorts, numerous unforced errors, double faults, his errant serve toss returned a bit. Looked like he was going for home runs which isn't his game.

Didn't help that Ruud looked really sharp.

Still a good run in San Diego.

The ITA All-American championships started on Saturday in Tulsa with pre-qualifying, but I haven't been able to find any TCU results as yet.

Yeah, let's forget about Norrie's latest final - he played terribly and was blown away by Ruud. But he did move up in the ATP rankings to 26th - a career high. Gray is up to #591. Chappell at #334; Rybo at #341.

Nick Chappell is in Chile this week for the Santiago Challenger and is scheduled to play Diego Fernandez Flores,a Chilean with an ATP rank of #896 in the first round of the main draw (Round of 32) in about an hour. Jerry Lopez is listed as the 6th seed in yet another Cancun tourney this week and will probably open tomorrow or Wednesday. The draw for Indian Wells will be released later this afternoon - Cam Norrie wasn't listed in the initial 16 seeds, but with Rafa, Fed and Djoker skipping the tourney, might get a good draw.

Went 3 for 4 today. Lone loss was in dubs by Jong/Aguilar. They entered as #1 seeds but lost to a team from Georgia. Fomba/PVM won 6 & 0 vs a team from UCF. I'll admit it isn't clear to me whether the doubles is in the main or qualifying round. I wouldn't expect Jong/Aguilar to be seeded that high in the main draw though.

Singles is definitely still in qualifying. In a weird quirk, both of our new guys got matched up with experienced players from Michigan. Maxted beat Andrew Fenty -- UM's #1 player who's been ranked as high as #14 in the nation -- 2 & 4. PVM beat Maloney, UM's #3 player, in 3 sets.

Nick Chappell will be playing Sebastian Baez, a 20-year-old Argentine with an ATP rank of #140 in the Santiago Challenger Round of 16 shortly.

gofrogs and the TCU twitter page are not covering the All-American tourney in Tulsa, so I am still having difficulty accessing results for the TCU players there.

3-all between Chappell and Baez now. Nick was down an early break, but evened it back. Cam Norrie will be teaming with Luke Saville at Indian Wells in doubles - they're scheduled to open up on Friday against Salisbury and Ram (both doubles specialists).

5-all. They're trading breaks.
Chappell takes the first set 7-5!
3-1 in the 2nd set. To get a W over the 140th ranked player would be a real accomplishment for Nick.
Chappell falls 4-6 in the 2nd set.

Chappell falls 7-5, 4-6, 1-6 in Santiago. A good start, but Baez's talent (he's seeded 5th) shows through in the 3rd.

Meanwhile, Gerardo Lopez Villasenor (or Jerry Lopez if you prefer English) is opening in the Round of 32 in yet another Cancun tourney against Emil Reinberg - it's into a breaker at 6-all in the first set.
Jerry takes the first set breaker 7-6 (7-3)!

Bad 2nd set - Lopez falls 1-6.
And just like Chappell, Jerry falls in the 3rd 2-6. Bad results for both Frogs today.

Juan Carlos Aguilar is in to the round of 32 today in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa. Fomba, ranked #3 in tourney, lost in straight sets to a player from Middle Tennessee St. Aguilar beat a qualifier from Pepperdine and plays another qualifier from Hawaii tomorrow @ 11:30 am.

Aguilar loses 6-2 6-2 to the qualifier from Hawaii. TCU done in Tulsa.

Cam Norrie will play Tennys Sandgren in the Round of 64 at Indian Wells. Norrie is seeded 21st and got a bye in the first round while Sandgren (ranked #102) beat Thiago Monteiro 4 and 3. You might remember than Sandgren was Cam's first finals opponent a couple years ago when they met in Auckland, just before the Aussie in 2019 - Sandgren ended up winning in an epic match that is still sometimes replayed on the Tennis Channel. Sandgren is a former Tennessee Vol, but that was awhile ago as he's now 30 years old.

Cam Norrie beat Sandgren 6-4, 5-7 and a bagel in the 3rd to advance to the Round of 32 at Indian Wells (although he and Saville lost yesterday in doubles to Salisbury/Ram). The next round opponent is TBD,
