Pedro Vives Marcos v. Adrian Boitan (TCU v. Baylor) is about to start in Fayetteville. And the big pro event - the Laver Cup - is just starting on the Tennis Channel in Boston. It'll feature Team Europe v. Team World - Joker, Fed and Rafa aren't there, but all the other top players are. I think Team Europe should be favored. Ruud v. Opelka up first. There'll be 3 singles matches and 1 doubles match per day - first team to 13 points wins.

If they are playing on court 5. And I assume the Caucasian guy carrying the Green towel is from Baylor
OUR GUY IS GOOOODD!!!!!
only 1 game he served but man the potential of domination is there
When you see him play and think he might be the 3rd or 4th on our team Now you see why Coach created the schedule he did. These guys can handle the competition
Very premature and serious lack of knowledge but following the guys playing in Fayetteville causes me to wonder if one of the Doubles specialists that transferred in might be watching from bench because these guys are that good and need to be on the court at every opportunity
Yes I am wearing Purple Shades

Pretty sure PVM is court 2 wearing a blue shirt against Boitan wearing the green shirt. Our guy isn't playing that well, just lost first set 6-2

Well, Henry Patten, the Jong-killer, just beat Jubb 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, so Jubb wasn't playing that well.:) Both are Brits; Jubb went to South Carolina and won the NCAA's 2 years ago. I'm pretty sure he's a full-time pro now, so we can't sign him. But yes, these guys are very good players; like most top college guys.

PVM not looking so good - 2-6, 1-all now...

PVM and Boitan seem to be playing a game of "who can hit the ball the hardest". In the five games I watched I'm not sure they ever got past 6 shots in a rally

That's coachable though. Rybo was definitely like that early; in fact, a LOT of college guys play that game. He'll definitely become more tennis-wise after some time with Roditi and Bowen.

Ouch! 2 and 1 L to Boitan. I'm gonna hold off on projecting PVM as our #2 guy for now. But it's a learning experience to play one of the top Big 12 rivals this early. Let's see about doubles with TJ later and look towards Lubbock.

Gray is set to play Mateus Alves (Brazilian ATP#505) in tomorrow's semis in JoBurg.

I thought PVM started well and missed some sitters to get behind. Then things sort of snowballed. Boitan seems like a pretty likely top-100 player in the future. It's probably a pipe dream, but I'm still holding out hope that a futures win or two this fall will convince him to ditch this season and go pro.

Yeah he looked fine at the start, played one horrendous service game, and fell apart

Pedro Vives Marcos and Tomas Jirousek ended up giving Bangoura and Asaba a walkover yesterday in doubles at Fayetteville, so that's it for the Frogs in Arkansas.

But in Johannesburg, Alastair Gray is currently playing his semifinal match against Mateus Alves and Gray just won the first set 6-4 after an early break. They's just started the 2nd set...
2-4 in the 2nd set. The winner gets Michail Pervolarakis in the finals.
2-5.
3-5. Ali needs a break...
Alastair falls 3-6 in the 2nd. The 3rd set will decide it.

Bad start to the 3rd as Gray is broken. love-1.
Yes! Big Al breaks back after a looong game with multiple deuces. 1-all.
2-1 as Gray holds easily.
3-1!! Alastair gets another break!
4-1! Gray is rolling and has won 4 straight games.
4-2. Alves holds after going down love-30.
5-2! Gray holds comfortably. The match goes over 2 hours.

The tenacious Frog - Alastair Gray - storms his way into his second consecutive singles final with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 W over Mateus Alves in Johannesburg! He will now play Michail Pervolarakis (ATP#481), who played at the University of Portland and was born in Cyprus, tomorrow at EllisPark for his second consecutive pro singles title!

Don't look now, but Alastair Gray just won his 2nd straight pro singles title; this time over Michail Pervolarakis, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in Johannesburg at Ellispark!! He struggled a little early, but then did his now usual Alastair thing and turned it on in the 2nd and 3rd sets to take the championship. This is Norrie-esque as he will now rocket into the 500's in the ATP rankings after starting just a few weeks ago in the 1000's. Having won 2 straight RSA's titles virtually ensures that he'll get a Special Exemption into the Pretoria tourney this week and will now be avoiding qualies generally in ITF events, and he's almost high enough in only a month to begin thinking about Challengers. Maybe he's made a good decision to turn pro...

Alex Rybakov is in Murcia (southeastern Spain) this week for the Murcia Open, a Challenger event that started in 2019. He just won his first round qualie match 6-1, 7-5 over Davide Golappini and will face Carlos Sanchez Jover tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. (CDT). Rybo is the top qualie seed.

In Lubbock, Pedro Vives Marcos (7th) and Tomas Jirousek (11th) are both on the main draw acceptance list for this week's tourney and will presumably start play Tuesday. Sander Jong (6th) and Luc Fomba (24th) are both listed on the qualie list And Lui Maxted is listed as the #1 junior reserved alternate. Juan Carlos Aguilar is listed as having withdrawn on 9/22. None are listed as on today's Order of Play, so if they all get in, they potentially will start tomorrow.

Cam Norrie has traveled to San Diego and will play Dominic Koepfer tomorrow (TBD) in his opener (Round of 32) in this ATP250 event.

And, in all the Gray excitement, I forgot to look up Jerry Lopez (o Gerardo Lopez Villasenor si prefiere espanol). He is also in a final today - which will start in about an hour! He won 4 matches over the past few days - over Dali Blanch, Perry Gregg, Miles Jones and Osgar O'Hoisin - in Cancun. And today's opponent is Jaimee Floyd Angele. Lopez is seeded 2nd and Angele 7th. Can the Frogs pick up two titles today? Stay tuned!
